Commonwealth Cider from PBC on Tap Now

Posted by Foobooz on August 27th, 2012

Late last summer Philadelphia Brewing Co. produced a very limited run of cider and this year they’re back with more. Now called Commonwealth Ciders, the first cider to be released in wider distribution is Traditional Dry, described as a very dry and crisp. It is currently on tap in at least seven local bars.

If you’ve already sampled the cider, let us know what you think.

Had a pint at interstate brew house. Did not enjoy it. Tasted watery compared to angry orchard or any

Had a few pints at Johnny Brenda’s and it was very refreshing. Will definitely continue to seek this cider out Not cloyingly sweet like Crispin or Angry Orchard. I could see why younger drinkers might not like this.

I love almost everything PBC makes but this cider is not good. It’s the Miller Lite of cider. Watery and not much flavor in my opinion.

Love this cider. I don’t like sweet wine, sweet beer, or sweet cocktails, so I never enjoyed the ciders that were out there. This one is tart even a little like cider vinegar, and it has very little sweetness. I’m cutting down on gluten, so this is now my go-to brew.
If you’re into carmel-y beers and so on, this will taste pretty off to you.

I didn’t enjoy the first pint I had of PBC’s cider (at Mac’s Tavern, IIRC). But I think I’ll try it again, because it seems based on the comments here that there may have been some consistency issues when it was first released. I prefer crisp, even tart ciders, but I didn’t detect either of these qualities in my initial taste. I definitely got some of the watery batch.
