Pizza Brain Bakes First Pizza Sets Opening Date

Posted by Foobooz on August 27th, 2012

It was a good weekend for Brian Dwyer and Pizza Brain, his Frankford Avenue pizzeria and pizza museum. Dwyer and company christened their pizza oven with their first ever Pizza Brain pizza. And then they announced that Pizza Brain will be serving its first customers on Friday, September 7 at 5 p.m.

The grand opening will include a crazy array of events from mobile haircuts to ice cream that tastes like pizza.

There’s an extra “sets” in the title of this post. And those guys are too grubby to be preparing and serving food.

    • pete

      i agree.

    • JA

I agree! Dingy and dank tank tops and exposed nasty armpits – perfect for this hipster dbag scene!

      Extra grease no charge

      PITS PITS PITS

Damn i didn’t know that beater shirts were fashionable for hipsters. That doesn’t make me want to try the pizza.

    • the worst

this epitomizes every thing currently wrong with the “foodie” trend.

    • Dustin

Those guys look like they smell.

    • The Observer

Wow- so many jealous haters. The pizza obviously was for personal consumption AS THE STORE ISN’T OPEN YET. And the photo likely was a personal one- not meant to be posted by bloggers. So get over yourselves. STOP the idiotic comments. Try actually getting behind something for a change.

    • The Communicator

Yeah, I was there when this was taken on my buddy’s iphone. And then posted to Brian ‘Brain’ Dwyer’s personal facebook page. This was never intended to a press photo of any kind. Why a prominent food website like this wouldn’t clear it before grabbing it from a facebook stream is beyond me. Ya’ll need to calm down with drinking all the haterade. I’ve had the pizza – it’s creative, delicious, and armpit free.

I took this photo from the official Pizza Brain Facebook page. I thought it was fun pic and just that. Wasn’t trying to encourage the grumps who came out to post on this thread.

      It’s still disgusting pitza

    • JA

@the observer – speaking for myself – I get behind lots of things when they;re are deserving.

Again speaking for myself – I assumed it wasn’t a photo meant for consumption (pardon the pun) as any sane business person would know that it would turnoff anyone other than fellow hipster dbags.

The fact is the picture is indicative of the people who will be preparing said pizza and the visualization is more than enough for me to never want to step foot in the place. But hey, my loss is your gain as you can stuff your face with more armpit pie!

@foobooz your readers that prefer a little cleanliness with their food are now grumps?

P.S. none of the posts were extreme or super malicious like other threads typically see!

    • kelso

@JA- You not just a grump. You’re a sanctimonious, judging grump. Hipster dbags? At least these “hipsters” are using their creativity to do something positive for their neighborhood and the city. What have you done?… That’s what I thought. Nothing. You’re a dbag and a windbag.

@Tex- Style of dress is not an indicator of cleanliness. However, your post is an indicator of a narrow mind.

    • dan marcantuno

They’re filthy looking and you’re nothing less then then what you allow the public to see. this is them, nothing more nothing less. It’s nasty, just like pop rocks and foie gras (state side). I agree with “The Worst Says” and “JA” this is hipster trendy foodie BS and unfortunaly rewards nastiness. Jason, you should’nt call your readers grumps, that doesnt become a James Beard nominee…

      • http://philadelphia.foobooz.com Foobooz

Dan: Anytime a comment says Foobooz, it’s me, Art ( I started this site and proudly contribute to it every day, it’s by far the best job I could imagine). And as for Jason, he’s a James Beard Award winner, not just a nominee.
It was me, Art who referred to some commenters as grumps, I’m sorry but sometimes reading every comment will lead to generalizations.
Tonight, I look forward to trying pop rocks and foie gras for dinner. If you can’t smile at great food created by smart chefs, what is there to enjoy?
And when Pizza Brain opens, I’ll be at the front of the line, ’cause why wouldn’t you celebrate with the dreamer who had the idea of opening the first pizza museum in the world, doing it right here in Philadelphia.

    • Tex

Sorry, but pictures like this can’t be unseen. I’ll never try Pizza Brain because of it, and I see that I’m not alone. Best of luck, though.

    • JA

      @kelso – but you’re not judging anyone?

Sure sign of a hipster dbag. Hipster’s love to seem (and act) as though they’re are above name calling and judging and then deliberately call others out for doing so not even realizing or understanding the hypocrisy of their actions…which is understandable as hipster dbags don’t even realize they’re hipster dbags.

As far as what do I do? Well for one thing I spend money that helps to allow even hipster dbags a chance to flourish. I’m also part of two business that have been operating in the City of Philadelphia since the 1940′s in one of the future areas (probably 20 years) of hipster douchebagery!

@foobooz, I appreciate the way you moderate the site and unless someone is a complete ass, allow the banter to freely flow.

As far as “the first pizza museum in the world”…really the first? I find that hard to believe. I could see it as the “first pizza museum in their little world”…but NOT the first ever.

Mr Lipson, this is why this site will never gain critical mass for Metro Corp: You keep Art around. His tastes and attitude suck.

Pizza from filthy hipsters suits you to a T Art. Enjoy the pit hair.

Don’t let the door hit you on the ass on your way out.

    • barryg

      What’s up with Foobooz Boston?

    • CaptainLogic

funny but if it was a cute hipster girls in tank-tops holding the pizza this conversation would not be happening.

to solve the problem, the keen marketing people hear at
CaptainLogic HQ will ship over some chefs coats, in white…book a promo call Pizza En Blanc, serving only white pies and vanilla milkshakes from the Little Baby Ice Cream shop next door and you’ll all pay $80 a head.

    • JA

I was going to suggest dressing them like the Franklin Fountain guys. Less chance of pubic hair getting into the food and depending on the material, hopefully it will contain the BO. Added bonus: you won’t have to look at all the bad tattoo’s!

    • Michael G

If the cute hipster girls had armpit hair the picture would be even more disturbing.
