Field House Reopening This Weekend with Andrew Brown in the Kitchen

We’ve long wished that the Field House next to Reading Terminal Market was the big mega-sized sports bar that we could recommend to tourists and others go. And with its renovation and reopening set for this weekend, maybe with the help of two Andys, it will finally become that.

Andrew Brown, who is leaving Opa on Sansom Street is going to be taking over the kitchen. Brown’s menu will contain Philadelphia staples and other dishes that harkan back to Brown’s days at the White Dog Cafe. And with the Reading Terminal Market across the street, fresh and local shouldn’t be too difficult.

The beer program is being managed by Andy Farrell who also stewards the City Taphouse program. The forty-tap system will stress local beers including some from the next generation of small brewers who have been popping up in the area.

The bar is receiving a complete overhaul with 35 new HDTVs on the first floor plus a 14′ x 9′ projection screen. Even the live music is getting an overhaul, gone are the cover bands and in are the local indy acts.

The bar is softly opening this Friday in time for the opening weekend of college football and all systems should be go by the middle of next week.

      The prior Field House had to have been the worst bar in the city. Ten bucks to see a shitty cover band with a bunch of sweet dudes and five dollar miller lites. I’m all set.

      This actually sounds much better. I’m sure the Indy acts will scare away the “brahs”. Not that i want this to become some hipster haven, I dislike them just as much as the sweet dudes. I’m sure it will still suck though.

      I was once a huge hater of The Field House, but I’ve been very impressed with City Taphouse and can see this being an extension of what they put together in U. City. I’m looking forward to checking out the re-launched Fieldhouse

      A “sweet dude” is essentially a guy who would get excited about going to the field house, or talk to people about his fantasy football team. Just another “bro” or whatever. Someone with little substance, opinions formed in another person’s head, etc. Might have worn ed hardy for a week and realized it was not acceptable and went back to button up shirts from Express for men.

      in addition, the term “sweet dude” came from the idea that someone at one point in time said “Oh, yeah bobby, he’s a pretty sweet dude, he drinks beers and parties, hooks up n’ shit, totally sweet dude”.

      Or the type of guy who in college says at one point “Bro, i cant wait to get back home for thanksgiving break, see all my boys, hang out, chill, eat mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, turkey, its gonna be sick bro!”

      No but seriously, its just a synonym for a “bro”.

      A “forty-tap system will stress local beers including some from the next generation of small brewers who have been popping up in the area” and the Headline on their website boasts Coors Light Draft and Coors Light Banquet Bottles…all the “sweet dudes” will be there if they look this place up on the interwebs…

      @andrew…quite to the contrary someone who talks fantasy football is probobly a lot less ‘sweet’ then yourself….after all, people win money in fantasy football, whereas they don’t by writing comments all day about how wack everyone else is.

      who’s really the sweet one sweetie? (sorry it was so painful for you to hear someone mention being excited to see friends and family, something in your childhood around thanksgiving must have left a terrible scar.)

      The meaning of ‘sweet dude’ seemed pretty obvious to me right off. Although I don’t know that I would ever use it, when ‘douchebag’ comes to mind even before ‘bro.’
