Craig LaBan Lands Four Bells

Posted by Foobooz on September 7th, 2012

Philadelphia Inquirer critic Craig LaBan won the Association of Food Journalists’ prize for best newspaper restaurant criticism.

Jason Wilson, who did write for the Philadelphia Daily News and now runs Drexel’s Tablematters.com, took first and second place for best newspaper food column, for articles that appeared in the San Francisco Chronicle and Washington Post.

      LaBan is the ultimate parasite.

    • Clueless

His readership drops about 50 percent every year. No wonder Inky is always bankrupt. Get a clue and replace this clueless clown. His opinion doesn’t mean shit to a restaurant success, actually the opposite.

Can we put him to sleep already?

      Jesus you people suck.

      Agree with Tsarstruck.

    • Frank Stallone

Prime example this man knows nothing about food or cooking:

“A couple of dishes were halfway great, like the scallops with caper brown butter that would have been wonderful had the squishy bottom sides been seared as well as the tops”

I can find about 50 more idiotic suggestions from this moron if I had the time or will. This particular one stands out though. Anyone that knows anything about scallops knows that it would be a rubbery mess if you do that. Go take a fucking cooking class you no talent ass clown

    • Typewriter

Craig LaBan uses a typewriter to write his reviews because he doesn’t want to be the only old obsolete thing wasting ink

    • Tex

I’m pretty sure Stephen Starr arranged this award as payback.

    • Suburbanite

We can all just look to Laban’s reviews as sources of amusement/humor in comparison to the often dismal headlines otherwise filling the inq. But, let the man do his job, (albeit losing his reputable as of late), and if you’re so curious, go check out a new restaurant and write a yelp review yourself… Just saying

      LaBan is pedantic.
