Carman’s Country Kitchen Closing in December

After more than two decades Carman’s Country Kitchen is calling it quits. The 11th Street breakfast spot run by the talented and occasionally shocking Carman Luntzel has lost its lease and will be closing on December, 16th.

Holly Moore has the details and a look back at Carman’s career and what might be in store for her in the future.

      Not sad in the slightest. Maybe don’t be a rude cunt to your customers and serve food that tastes good at reasonable prices if you want people to come back.

      Because what South Philly really needs is…another corner pizza store. This is a gross loss. Hope she retires and rides off into the sunset.

      Ha. At Apolonia…I just read the headline and started telling my bf a story which i referred to her with the same awful vulgar word, cause she was THAT rude……Good riddance

      I’m from Philadelphia, but my husband and I moved to Hawaii about 10 years ago. Every year we come back to Philly to visit family and friends and a visit to Carman’s is always a must. Hearing that the place is closing is the saddest news I have heard in a long time. I hope she re-opens somewhere else. Very few places offer food as delicious as Carman’s. We love you, Carman!!

      They were always pleasant to me and the food was always worth the price. Apolonia and Felise – you reap what you sow.

      This is one of the real, true Philly joints. Carmens will be missed.

      This is a sad end. Carman’s was a neighborhood staple. The service was warm and friendly and you can’t beat the kitsch. Personally, I prefer breakfast at Sabrina’s. I thought Carman’s was overpriced and overhyped. Still, I shall miss the presence in the neighborhood.

      I don’t understand Dean’s comment to Apolonia and Felise. You reap what you sow? These people had a bad experience at a restaurant. What exactly are they reaping and sowing?

      As far as Carman’s goes, I had a memorably bad dining experience there, food and staff-wise. I’m not a rude person and I didn’t go there with a sense of entitlement. It was just plain bad.

      I was Always happy to get a seat in Carmen’s, unless she was on one of her world travels. The food was good, coffee cups were weird, reading material varied and the customers from all over the map. We Now live in a world of people who are just Looking to be offended ['What does that mean 'You People'?], so you guys can stuff it. We need More characters in the food biz like Carmen, not less. For the yuppies that Don’t get it, watch the Soup Nazi on Seinfeld. After December–’No more Carmen’s for us. Next!’

      I don’t get trying to start a new pizzeria there. There are already so many pizza places within a small radius.

      I used to live in Philly.
      On my way for a visit and !!!NO CARMANS!!!!
      What a disapointment. What a loss.
