Its astounding how some of the best restaurant experiences you’ll ever have are such poorly run businesses….

I didn’t really get anything out of this story though that he ran the business poorly. It seems the place was simply just not busy enough. That can happen in an odd location. You need people coming in or it’s curtains. Plus, a 5 year run in the restaurant business is surely not poor.

      Location, Location, Location.

Relaunch in Passyunk to help make up for the loss of Carman.

It’s astounding how people who have never run a business have tons of shit to day about things they have never experienced. The restaurant business is VERY difficult – more difficult that running other types of businesses. You don’t clock out at 5PM like most people who don’t have the balls and the courage to try it themselves. So, before you talk about someone else, try doing what they do – and do it better than them. My thoughts? You’d be too busy to comment on these forums. We should be very sorry to see Cafe Estelle go. And good luck to Marshall!

Running a small underfunded business is tough. Unless you are born rich, your business is probably going to be underfunded. Ending the week with 5 dollars more than you started is a big win in the early days. Most weeks just breaking even is a big relief.

It sounds like he going out with his lease paid up and his vendors paid. That’s real accomplishment.

Sticking out for 5 years is quite an accomplishment.

Closing on your own terms, that’s a real accomplishment.

Going out on top, another accomplishment.
