In case you can’t see it in the picture, that’s fresh bread, a pound of head-on shrimp, figs, grapes, a cauliflower salad, cheeses from Grafton and Old Chatham. There’s some prepared food in there, too (including a very cool looking DIY Thai stir-fry kit). Not pictured: The prosciutto that’s already been eaten and the LaFrieda burgers that are waiting in the freezer for closing time.

I’m all for the fresh stuff. But that beef bourguignon that someone left on the table has some crazy amounts of sodium and other stuff in it.

FreshDirect propose to use $130 million in subsidies to occupy public waterfront land in the South Bronx, imposing 2,000 daily vehicle trips through a community already facing asthma rates five times the national average. This company is a parasite on the public: they use public dollars to aggravate public streets with noise, exhaust, and waste.
