Top Liquor Purchasers for 2011

Here’s the 2011 liquor purchasers in Philadelphia for 2011. This factors out wine purchases from the state. All that tequila really runs up the bill at El Vez. Note, this isn’t what the bars sold the alcohol for, but rather how much they purchased it for from the PLCB.

      Please tell me there is an error on the list and Fat Tuesday isn’t regularly selling #$1,000 bottles of wine

        TK421, we have a call into the PLCB about that item as it does seem impossible. When we get a response, we’ll update it here.

      Yummy info…interesting that Lacroix and Le Bec didn’t make the list…also interesting that some big chains I would’ve expected also didn’t make the list like Maggianos, TGI Fridays, Chilis, etc

      I noticed some private clubs (like PCC and Union League), but I would’ve thought there would be more, especially considering the number of events that they run like Vesper, Ukie Club, FOP Lodge…

      Also curiously I’m surprised not to see some of the larger caters in the city, especially the ones with exclusive venues like Aramark (Convention Center), Brulee (Please Touch Museum), etc.

      But lastly MOST surprised to not see any of the restaurants or bars from the casinos Parx or Sugarhouse show up…I would’ve thought they would definitely show-up high in liquor sales…

      Parx and Harrahs arent in Philadelphia. Wouldn’t expect to see Sugarhouse on a list like this given the clientele.

      @Peetah take another look, Maggiano’s and Lacroix (under Rittenhouse Hotel) are both on the list. Le Bec Fin closed in the middle of 2011 and probably worked down existing inventory before that time so that explains that. I wonder if the Aramark/CBP listing encompasses all of Aramark purchases. Cescaphe and Starr Catering are on the list.

      In general the avg wine bottle prices seem way out of whack, I think something is wrong with that data (probably the bottle count). Not just Fat Tuesday–Copa, Cavanaughs, Lucy’s, Mad River etc are not selling wines that expensive on average if at all.

      @Barryg you’re right I wasn’t looking close enough.

      I guess long of the short I’m wondering about the ‘accuracy’ of the data with some what i would think would be big customers are not appearing in this list. For example – Le Bec closed in March 2012, and Sugarhouse I would presume still goes through quite a bit of liquor. Is the data just bad, or are some places maybe getting their booze ‘across the border?’
