Signs of Life for Royal Sushi & Izakaya

Royal Sushi & Izakaya has posted a job opening at Foobooz Jobs for a sushi sous chef. Construction has been ongoing at the long waited for Japanese pub and sushi spot on 2nd Street. A sushi sous chef position being posted is a sure sign, the opening is near.

      Great news. I still miss Rozu.

      I can’t wait for them to open. Royal Tavern is my favorite bar in the city and this new place is 2 blocks closer!!

      Rozu was a short-lived but well regarded Sushi place by the chef associated with the Royal Sushi project. That location is now under new ownership/staff, and is called Big Eye Sushi

      This is probably the opening that I am the most excited about. The Khyber Pass redo has been truly amazing. It’s my favorite beer and BBQ bar. Philly definitely needs an izakaya (and no, Sampan doesn’t count). Still no date?

      based upon that one measly photo, this actually looks like it might be an actual izakaya (unlike sakeya izakaya, which was just an odd space). pretty stoked if it comes through, though i will be its biggest fan if there are weird seating nooks and uncomfortable woven seats. :D
