Le Bec Fin Adds $85 Dinner Option

Posted by Foobooz on October 24th, 2012

There was also big news in Brian Freedman’s review of Le Bec Fin. Starting this Friday Nicolas Fanucci will begin offering a four-course, $85 dinner option on the main floor as well as a three-course lunch option for $39. A drastic reduction from the $150 tasting dinner and $55 lunch commitments. Fanucci tells Freedman “he wants Le Bec to not just be a place for birthdays and anniversaries, but also for a nice night out that can be considered alongside our city’s other great restaurants.”

You could still get a better meal at Bibou, Farm and Fisherman,Stateside, Sbraga, Will, Blackfish, Mica, and Vernick for much cheaper.

They want to stop hearing Internet critics whine about the cost. I don’t blame them.

Is this move going to advertised by tacky banners outside the restaurant like those that George P. put up?

Sbraga is not nearly as good, and Mica is not significantly cheaper.

I admire and applaud Nicolas for keeping with the tradition of Le Bec Fin, it’s beautiful ambiance and great food. It is a necessary staple in Philadelphia and should remain for another 40 years. We are in too much of a hurry to get rid of the old and bring in the new; there is nothing wrong with the “old”. Congrats to Le Bec Fin and the entire staff; keep up the great work. See you at dinner.

You can get a tasting menu at Mica for 45 bucks.

      Not impressed by Mica.

It’s still a minimum $300 meal for two. And that’s only if you choose a modest wine and refrain from pre-dinner cocktails. But it’s definitely a step in right direction. My only problem is I don’t like to eat so much food, i.e. I would prefer an a-la-carte option. I guess the downstairs cafe is more my cup ‘o tea!

If it was done at relaunch, I’d say “smart”. To do it now… at the very least suggests their original plan isn’t working out as well as they thought. If that’s the case it doesn’t mean its the wrong thing to do, but I’d say such a drastic change is a warning sign.
