Beer vs. Wine Dinner at Brauhaus Schmitz
Posted by Jason Sheehan on November 14th, 2012
Yeah, there are a lot of pairing dinners out there these days. Wine pairings, beer pairings, whiskey and champagne and gin pairings. But one thing we haven’t seen yet? A pairing dinner turned into a battle between beer lovers and oenophiles, where the best pairing for each course will be chosen by the participants and winners chosen in the age-old fight between beer drinkers and winos.
At least not until now. On Tuesday, November 20, at Brauhaus Schmitz (advantage: beer), owner Doug Hager and chef Jeremy Nolen will be teaming up with gentleman of leisure Michael Solomonov and certified wine nerd Marnie Old (local wine consultant and author of He Said Wine, She Said Beer) to do a one-night-only Battle of the Booze. The deal is, five courses will be presented, paired with both a wine and a beer. Those in attendance will get to choose which pairing is the best and, one must assume, mock the loser.
The Menu
1st Course
Maultaschen
Chestnut stuffed pasta, pumpernickel crumbs, riesling veloute, aged gouda
2nd Course
Hühner Leber Schnitzel
Chicken liver schnitzel “BLT”
3rd Course
Heilbutt
Halibut stuffed cabbage rolls, passion fruit-mango pickle
4th Course
Schweinebauch
Confit pork elly, turnip-sauerkraut gratin, maggi glaze
5th Course
Eiercreme
Malted pot de creme, chocolate covered pretzel stick
So yeah, 5 courses, passed hors d’oeuvres, lots to drink and plenty of fun. Tickets are $75 per person (plus tax and tip), and there’s only going to be one seating (at 7pm), so if you’re into it, you should make reservations now by calling Brauhaus Schmitz at 267-909-8814.
And let’s all hope that Marnie knows how to pair with German food, huh?
