Cavanaugh’s Crew Takes Over The Dark Horse

The Dark Horse at Headhouse Square has new owners and a blast from the past back in the kitchen. The bi-level bar is now owned by he team behind the Cavanaugh’s stable of bars. Owners Patrick Pawliczek and Ken Hutchings have brought a familiar name back to the kitchen. Ben McNamara, who has been doing gastropub since before that unfortunate name stuck, is the chef at Cavanaugh’s Headhouse Square. McNamara has been the chef at the New Wave Cafe, Saint Stephens Green and Philadelphia Bar and Restaurant. This will be his second tour of the kitchen in the Dark Horse/Dickens Inn space.

Another connection to the space’s past will be Jim Crowley. The longtime bartender will still be at the helm of the downstairs bar.

Also remaining the same, the bar’s devotion to European soccer, rugby, Grand Prix racing and even cricket.

McNamara’s menu will reflect Cavanaugh’s bar food formula as well as Irish staples. Highlights include:

  • Cav’s Nachos
  • Cheesesteak Spring Rolls
  • Burgers
  • Fish & Chips
  • Bangers & Mash
  • Irish Breakfast
  • Cornish Pasties
  • Shepherd’s Pie
  • Irish Sausage Roll of sage sausage wrapped in puff pastry
