From Ratchada to Liquid Room, It’s Time to Vote for the Worst Bar or Restaurant Name of 2012

Yesterday, we learned that the old Cafe de Laos at 11th and Washington is now called Ratchada. We pretty much decided there and then that Ratchada is the worst restaurant name of 2012. But then we got to thinking about all of the other Philly bar and restaurant openings, and it turns out that there are more than a few bad names out there. So, in keeping with tradition (remember Tryst, Swallow and Chenango?), we’ve decided to let you cast your vote for the worst name of 2012.

      compared to yolo and chic a lic, ratchada doesn’t even come close, though ethnic restos tipping the hat to the old country gets a pass from me (is positano coast ok by youse? samarkand?).

      Agree with previous commenters – what was so terrible about Ratchada? (Ate there the other night – the owner is very sweet, menu is similar to Cafe de Laos, just more condensed and easier to navigate.)

      Not sure what is wrong with the name Ratchada… Stopped there the other day for lunch and really enjoyed the food.

      Why is YOLO in the lead for worst name? I think it fits well with the James Bond-themed cafe down the street, YOLT.

      I agree about Ratchada. I think it’s on here because whoever put it on here thinks it sounds like rat-cha-da. It has the word rat in it. Get it? Whoever created this vote doesn’t know that Ratchada is a location in Thailand. So when he/she sees the word rat, he thinks it’s a bad name.

      I have always been bothered by the fact that Bar Ferdinand spells “BARF” with the first four letters.
