Some Changes For Hop Sing Laundromat

Posted by Jason Sheehan on December 11th, 2012

“Dear Stalkers. Due 2 our more expensive updated well liquors, all cocktails is $12 starting 12/12/12. [And] cuz we are rated #12 on @FooBooz [Top 50 Bars of 2012] so blame them.”

–That’s right, blame us. But also check out the new well liquors that Lee has been bringing in AND a new cocktail menu starting tomorrow night at Hop Sing Laundromat.

      any other bars, including those ABOVE HSL raising prices? No? did you get trolled/baited to post AGAIN about hop sing? yes.

      Also, I’m not going to join twitter and follow lee…what are these glorious well liquors and why are they requiring a two dollar increase? what were the previous well liquors? how much is the price difference? nevermind, why would i expect that from a food blog–to actually check out a story about the food, not just re-post a stupid tweet?

      Anyway, I think it is humorous how dumb Lee thinks his customers are. Given that you could make about 20-25 drinks from a bottle of liquor, at $2 extra per bottle, are we really supposed to believe that his well liquor increased by $40-$50 per bottle? Come on! Even if his well liquor costs $200 per bottle (which it doesn’t), that would be at least a 20% increase in costs. Have you seen this increase at the PLCB? I haven’t. He’s raising prices because that is what his stupid customers are willing to pay. And that is how you should price any product. Forget your costs. What are the customers willing to pay.

      Er, I meant at $2 extra per drink (not bottle).

      @Jacques
      Pls go back to France or wherever u got that phoney name from and let the rest of us decided what to do with our money.
      Your comment is silly at best, sir. All other cocktail bars charged much more than HSL for much cheaper liquors but you already know that, don’t u?

    • Alimentarian

      I’ve never heard of this place. Did it just open recently?

    • Better get there soon

      This place is hurting, the huge overhead and the business prevention policies that run the door are to blame. Marking up drinks may help for a while, but it will not cure the problems. Great marketing, but not a very well run shop, financially.

      $12 is not a markup, it puts the prices at the level of other cocktail bars. $10 was a bargain even if you think the place or cocktails are overrated.

      @jacques
      lee does not think his customers are dumb.
      His customers are just dumb and gluttons for punishment.

      I thought Hop Sing was still ironing Hoss’s chaps?

      @Better Get There Soon
      Really? How would u know all those info? Are u an accountant for HSL or just some “know it all” out of work “mixologist”?
      I don’t see how a bar has a “huge overhead” as u put it & shouldn’t a business has the right to refuse service to anyone cuz the last time I check, they do have that right.

      Crybabies! You don’t like it, Don’t Go! Most of you clowns don’t support the places you Love to bith about, so Please stop whining. God Bless a guy like Lee, willing to do something ‘different’ in Philadelphia, of all places. Sure, go around town to the ‘nice’ places and they’ve Already been charging $12 a pop. Maybe the guy has high overhead, pricey insurance or Pays His Employees Well, but what do You care? You don’t go, but you bitch, and then say ‘Ha! I knew it!’ when a place closes. Sniper F-in Haters, go ahead, Get it off your chests, I’m checking out the places for Myself, and Not listening to you toadie Grinches. Enjoy your toadstool sandwiches.

      I remember reading that he was going to increase is prices in the fall, so this is really a long time coming already. The well liqours excuse is a little weird though…

    • Aynn

      Yes justify why it’s awesome to pay $12 a drink to help poor old Hop with his fictional steep rise in liquor prices – all while you are sleeping on a ratty futon covered with your bodily fluid stains.

    • Meg

      Every time I’ve been there, a round or two has been “forgotten” by the bartender. When we notified Mr. Lee, he graciously claimed the bar is “bad at math”. So cute. It’s a great place. His well liquors are considered top shelf in most other bars. $12 is totally worth it.

      Call me crazy, but if you are a business, and you want to drive interest and traffic into your business, it’s probably not a good idea to PROTECT YOUR TWITTER ACCOUNT. We can’t even click through to see what these amazing new liquors/cocktails are. Hey HSL, let me know if you need some social media help. And Foobooz, you probably should have noted that before linking to their tweet. Super responsible “journalism” guys….

      Amazing, how foolish some of you are. Ignorant at times like these posts here. Where can you get jameson 12 year and other amazing selected well Drinks for $12. $2 increase in nothing. Entrepreneurs and business owners need to adjust their prices to keep up with the increases in their business or new city taxes, etc. That’s what business managers and owners do. Should be $14 and up based on costs of the well products he has carefully chosen. Think of it a different way instead of just the term “well”. You are getting superb products at a discount vs other places and he has just chosen to use these in his well. Check your comcast bill. They just went up$5-10 because they can and say they have to keep up with costs. But you’ll still buy canble now won’t you. If you are complaining about a $12 drink in the city you should stay in suburbs or at your local dive bar and drink Bankers vodka or other crappy products. Lee is very smart and gives his guests a phenomenal well drink for $12 now. All the other bars and
      restaurants charge wayyyyy more for everything he offers. What is the problem? besides all this if you are complaining here you are probably not cool enough to get in or appreciate this type of scene anyways. We all know what a bottle costs and how many drinks it yields. If we viewed things this way then buy the bottle from store and stay home. We go out and buy $12 drinks to appreciate being out and diversifying our experiences. The mark up on liquor, food, etc pays for ncreases in everything tand basic coss of runnng a business. Cheers to all the entrepreneurs and business owners out there for staying in busness. Relax people. Happy holidays!!!
