Gennaro’s Tomato Pie Coming To Passyunk, West Passyunk
Posted by Alex Tewfik on December 13th, 2012
Right off of Passyunk Avenue, and about two blocks south—that’s where Gennaro’s Tomato Pie will be. For those of you who don’t know, Lombardi’s Pizza on 18th Street, just north of Rittenhouse Park, used to be the site of the NYC’s Lombardi’s offshoot. In 2005, things fell through and Mike Giammarino, who operated Philly’s Lombardi’s, went back to NYC to plan his next move. Seven years later, he found a spot right off of Passyunk, on 1429 Jackson Street, as reported by Michael Klein.
There, he’ll be serving up some classic pizza parlor stuff, and a variety of select tomato pies, mainly “upside-down” pizzas. Keep in mind, this isn’t another offshoot of Lombardi’s but will serve up “American-style” pizza — done real nice.
This new pizzeria, along with South Philadelphia Tap Room, Circles, and Miss Rachel’s Pantry, makes it seem as west of Broad—might just become the new east of Broad.
