One Bell Review for The Cambridge

The drinks are the thing at South Street’s The Cambridge. The food, well Craig LaBan has some issues there.

I might have loved the Asian-styled pulled pork sandwich called Sensei Kris had the tender shreds of confit-cooked pork not been reheated on the plancha to a crispy black. The towering meat loaf sandwich layered atop an onion-poppy roll with a fried egg? Burned to a char. Even the lightly curried cauliflower florets that accompanied the dry fillet of salmon were roasted briquette-black.

      Well maybe he had a bad night but I have to say this place is worth a look see for yourself. I took a group of 5 people to Cambridge and every thing we ate from the fried chicken, short rib mac and cheese and chimichurri was amazing. The staff was great and very friendly and the atmosphere warm and inviting. Don’t listen to this review, try it yourself and see what you think. I never write reviews really, but this place was a nice find for us.

      I agree with Melissa. Best gastropub in CC (if you think of west of broad – south st. as cc, which I do). Food is well better and more affordable than Monks and P&K. And simply better than places like good dog. Admittedly, the competition is not that stiff in cc.

      Food is consistently good and well-priced and beer is amazing and well-priced. Interior is cool too. What more do you want?

      The moral of the story is that you need to identify craigers. He was in a huff b/c he had to wait. Nobody makes craigers wait! Nobody!!! Do you know who I am!?! They need to get Starr’s consultant in there STAT!

      hit n miss is about right for the cambridge. I go pretty often for their fantastic beer specials but have stopped eating the food there. Every time I find something I like, it’s nasty the next time I order it.

      Dan, Center City is between the two rivers East/West and Callowhill and South Streets North/South…so EVERYONE considers the West Side of South Street Center City. This isn’t Christian Street we’re talking about here.

      Maybe you just had a good night. This is what “Hit or Miss” means. Laban visits a restaurant more than once before he reviews it – as he mentioned he did at the Cambridge. Did you even read the review?

      @ Dan: actually, the moral was don’t say 20 minutes when it’s an hour (though that was confusingly written).

      Also, have better food.

      @Jacque of course she read the review which is why she is pathetically trying to do damage control for her clients. Real patrons do not write like that.

      @Barryg and Jacques, I am a real patron, I don’t and have never worked for Stateside or anyplace affiliated with it and I did read the review. As I stated previously, I don’t comment often on these websites except when I’ve had a good experience and people might state otherwise. I feel there are many people that live and die by the bell of Mr. Laban and just wanted to remind people to try things for themselves and decide.

      Ha, I love when the neighborhood nazis get their panties in a bunch. Whatever helps you sleep in your righteous “newbold” beds.

      I love these arguments. It all boils down to smug little twerp one-upsmanship. These commenters are literally the kings and queens of this crap. So insufferable.

      I do wonder if these folks act this way in their daily lives. Who could stand one minute of them?
