Le Bec Fin to Close This June

The doors are closing

Michael Klein is reporting that Le Bec Fin will “retire” this June. Replacing the French icon will be a new restaurant serving “progressive American cuisine” and run by chef Justin Bogle, who is returning to Philadelphia after running the kitchen at New York’s Gilt.

Chris Scarduzio, who was Georges Perrier’s partner at several restaurants will be the new restaurant’s director of operations. Nicolas Fanucci who has been identified as the owner of Le Bec Fin has indeed recently departed and won’t be involved in the running of the new restaurant.

Current chef Steve Eckerd will land on his feet. Klein reports that the chef and his partners have landed the Mainland Inn in Montgomery County.

Though this definitively ends the Le Bec Fin legacy, it does bring yet another top-line chef to Philadelphia in Bogle. Bogle, a Roxborough native was one of the youngest chefs to ever be awarded to Michelin stars for his work at the now closed Gilt. Bogle graduated from Restaurant School at Walnut Hill College and worked for Douglas Rodriguez and Jose Garces at Alma de Cuba before moving over to Striped Bass, where he worked for Christopher Lee.

Bogle followed Lee to New York and was a sous chef under Lee at Gilt. In 2009 he became the executive chef and the restaurant received its two-star Michelin rating. A rating it held till its closing in 2011.
