Meme’s Fried Chicken to Make a Reappearance

Posted by Foobooz on April 18th, 2013

Meme - Fried Chicken Lunch

David Katz and Scott Schroeder have been missing Meme’s fried chicken Thursdays. So on Thursday, May 2nd Katz and Schroeder are doing a fried chicken pop-up at American Sardine Bar. It will be the same deal as Meme’s was before it closed. $11 gets you chicken, a biscuit and a bottle of Miller High Life. They two hope to have a couple sides to offer as well. The offer starts at 11 a.m. and goes until they run out of chicken.

See you there and keep those High Lifes freezing cold.

Ultimo Coffee Named Ultimate in America

Posted by Foobooz on April 4th, 2013

The Daily Meal loves itself some lists. And today they name the Best Coffee Shops in America. And sitting pretty in the number one spot is Philadelphia’s Ultimo Coffee. Ultimo, which won Philadelphia magazine’s Best of Philly Coffee Shop for 2012, is singled out for its lack of attitude, sandwiches from American Sardine Bar and that the Newbold location is attached to BREW, the craft beer shop it shares space with.

Also making the list, Joe, which just opened on the 1800 block of Walnut Street and Town Hall Coffee on Montgomery Drive in Merion Station.

Scott Schroeder’s American Sardine Bar sandwiches are getting wider distribution. The sandwich artist and people’s champ’s sandwiches will be available at both Ultimo Coffee locations starting today. A vegan, vegetarian and meat-friendly sandwich option will be available each day. An Ultimo employee promised the sandwiches would be more substantial than previous sandwich options and priced more reasonably.

We wound up catching the American Sardine Bar commercial several times over the weekend. The 30-second spot features Mr. Bait Fish at the Point Breeze bar being lored in by an attractive female. The commercial was shot and produced by First Capital Pictures, a local outfit headquartered in Old City.

Now the video is out on the web, so check it out.

Annotated Menu: Scott Schroeder at American Sardine Bar

Posted by Jason Sheehan on February 5th, 2013

According to chef Scott Schroeder, there are two reasons why his Point Breeze joint, American Sardine Bar, became the place it is. First, because he didn’t think the world needed another gastropub (especially one so close to the gastropub he already runs, South Philly Tap Room). And second, because he felt confident that “people will go into bad neighborhoods for a good sandwich.” Here’s what he’s using as bait.

American Sardine Bar Filmed a Commercial

Posted by Foobooz on January 7th, 2013

First Capital Pictures, the  company that has given us a Kenzinger commercial as well as Philly Beer Week spots, is back with American Sardine Bar’s first ad. Only stills exist so far but we can tell one thing, it’s going to be weird.

Look for the commercial later this month.
