Suburban Snacks: From Fort Washington to Haddonfield and Wegmans Too

Cantina Feliz gets go-ahead for outdoor dining. The 300 square-foot patio is secluded from traffic and will be surrounded by shrubs, trees, flowers and a picket fence. The area will have seating for twenty and should open in late June.

Ralic’s Steakhouse opens in Haddonfield on June 18th. Hell’s Kitchen contestant Ed Battaglia mans the back of the house. [The Insider]

Trey Popp ventures out to Bala Cynwyd to try out Avril, a French restaurant that he feels lacks some focus.

When not hampered by lapses in execution, though, Gatti’s cooking is full of fresh ideas. His curried carrot mousse, whose cloudlike consistency found playful counterpoint in a crust of walnuts and whole-grain farro, was a show-stealing revelation next to a simple grilled rack of lamb. The deep meatiness of his very tender wine-braised brisket got a welcome lift from more of that cherry sauce.

Avril , a Northern Italian and Southern French BYOB opens tonight in Bala Cynwyd.

The Owners

The husband and wife team of Christian Gatti and April Lisante
Gatti has experience at:
- City Tavern
- White Dog
- Audrey Claire
Lisante was a long-time food writer for the Philadelphia Daily News
The couple met during a 2003 Daily News photo shoot where Gatti was featured as one of Philadelphia’s “hot, young chefs.”

Right now Foobooz crush object, Paesano’s is suffering from too much of a good thing. Since being named the best hoagie by WIP they’ve been getting crushed by business. So for at least right now, the late night hours are off.

Strongbox is a locked box. The Walnut Street bottle bar is closing for the summer. [Meal Ticket]
