Biba

A Third Tria

Posted by Foobooz on August 11th, 2011

And with that most unfair of headlines we tell you that Biba Wine Bar will now be known as Tria Wine Room. Popular Tria promotions like Sunday School and frequent diner programs will be available at the University City location.

On Tuesday, August 16th from 3 to 11 p.m. Tria Wine Room will be celebrating its “Grand Opening” with bubbly, cheese deals and a special on Biba wine glasses.

UC Dining Days Provide Deals

Posted by Foobooz on July 18th, 2011

Last night we took advantage of University City Dining Days by hitting up Biba for an awesome $15 three-course dinner. We started with the impossibly thinly sliced cured Spanish pork tenderloin, followed that up with a rather nice mixed greens salad with figls, hazelnuts and Gorgonzola. Third course was any cheese off Biba’s menu. We went with a Spanish blue. It’s a great deal and was made even better by yesterday’s Sunday School offerings.

So we recommend you hit up Biba before Dining Days ends on Thursday, July 28th and for exceptional dealage, plan on visiting next Sunday.

Vietnam Cafe and both of Jose Garces’ restaurants (Distrito and JG Domestic) also have menus worth checking out. Check out all the participating restaurants on the University City District’s web site.

Biba Opens Today

Posted by Foobooz on October 8th, 2010

The people who have brought us Tria bring us Biba today. The wine bar is located at 3131 Walnut Street in the Left Bank building. It’s smaller than a Tria and the concept is, talk to your neighbor. The tables are all communal and there are no distractions like TVs, Playstations or even wifi.

What Biba does have is 26 wines by the glass, all under $10 and 10 beers, including a rotating cask selection.

The menus contain descriptive titles that you may be familiar with from Tria but we detect a bit more attitude in these. Check it out soon, and for the Penn averse, fall break starts today.

Biba Aiming for Late August Opening

Posted by Foobooz on August 10th, 2010

Tria’s Jon Myerow will be debuting a unique concept for University City this August. Biba Wine Bar will be opening at 3131 Walnut Street and featuring wine, beer, cheese, charcuterie and chocolate. Described as “Tria’s fun little cousin,” Biba will offer guests a sophisticated, distraction-free place that aims to be a haven for social interaction. Remind us how this is different than Tria?

It is a bit smaller than a Tria, 32-seat bar with a 12-seat outdoor patio. 26 wines will be available by the glass and 10 beers will be offered, including a rotating cask selection.

Biba is located in the Left Bank building and will be open Sunday through Thursday from noon until midnight, and Friday and Saturday from noon until 1 am.

Update: Looks like early September is more reasonable.
