Two Big Dinners Announced For Bistrot La Minette

Posted by Alex Tewfik on March 13th, 2013

Bistrot La Minette

Peter Woolsey is a busy and popular man, and I’ll tell you why.

Today and tomorrow at Bistrot La Minette, chef Woolsey and Jeremy Nolen from Brauhaus Schmitz have teamed up to create a four-course Alsace dinner for $35 ($55 with wine pairings). If you’re unsure of what Alsatian food is, just know that Alsace is one of the smallest regions in France and shares a border with Germany–so what you’re assuming is probably right: A master of French cuisine teaming up with a master of modern German cuisine to make some kind of weird, Franco-German culinary Voltron. It sounds near perfect.

Woolsey’s Kitchen Equipment Going to Avenue Delicatessen

Posted by Foobooz on February 11th, 2013

Remember back in December when Peter Woolsey was looking to give away some of his old kitchen equipment? Well it’s been claimed. The Avenue Delicatessen is picking up the equipment this morning. Laura Frangiosa, who used to work for Woolsey is excited to be putting the equipment to use in her new Lansdowne Jewish/Italian delicatessen. As you might imagine, Frangiosa can’t say enough good things about the Bistrot La Minette owner and chef.

As for Avenue Delicatessen’s Kickstarter campaign for a sign, they hit that goal late Friday.

Bastille Day Celebrations This Weekend

Posted by Foobooz on July 13th, 2012

Nobody does Bastille Day in Philadelphia like Fairmount. Eastern State Penitentiary plays the part of the Bastille and Fairmount Avenue becomes a Parisian boulevard. London Grill and its new sister establishment, Paris Wine Bar, promise to make this year’s festivities the biggest yet.

About Last Night: Open Stove Night IV

Posted by Jason Sheehan on July 6th, 2012

Once again, last night brought to Philadelphia the glory, the pageantry and the weirdness that is the Foobooz Open Stove Night. At COOK, we gathered together our two teams of noble competitors–Kenny “Admiral Snackbar” Bush from Bistrot La Minette and Henrik “The Swedish Hammer” Ringbom from Brauhaus Schmitz–for a European showdown which pitted a Swedish-born chef cooking German food in an American city against an American-born chef working at a French restaurant who (for reasons of his own) decided to use last night as a chance to cook the Spanish food he loves so well.

Two chefs, two sous chefs, 8 courses and WAY too many drinks–that’s how these things work. And in case you missed the fun last night, don’t worry. We had COOK’s photo ninja Yoni Nimroad taking pictures for us: Preserving the thrill of victory, the agony of defeat and evidence of all the good grub consumed. So click through the jump to take a look at all the fun we had.

Wait, what is Admiral Snackbar doing to that elk?

Foobooz Open Stove Night IV: A European Affair

Posted by Jason Sheehan on June 27th, 2012

We have made them cook with Doritos and beer. We have taken away their sous chefs. We have fed them shots and given them ramen, made them use radishes as a main course and forced them to make sauces out of cheez (as pictured above). And why have we done this?

All in the name of entertainment, of course. Bread and circuses for the food-obsessed hordes. The Foobooz Open Stove nights have become Philly’s gladiatorial arena–the place where young cooks come to prove themselves against their knife-wielding comrades–and we have just confirmed who our two new contestants will be.

On Thursday, July 5, Kenny “Admiral Snackbar” Bush of Bistrot La Minette will stand against Henrik “The Swedish Hammer” Ringbom of Brauhaus Schmitz in another raucous, whiskey-laced Open Stove showdown at COOK, a European Battle Royale pitting France against Germany in a contest for culinary domination. And the best part? Right this minute, there are still tickets available.

So get over to COOK right now and get your seats. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Summer Menu at Bistrot La Minette

Posted by Aubrey Nagle on June 21st, 2012

This summer Bistrot La Minette has changed their entire menu. As of this Friday, and for the rest of the season, the menu will be nothing but Provencal cooking. This means that even the La Minette’s most popular dishes – including chef Peter Woolsey’s wife’s mac n’ cheese – will be removed from the menu. (But if you ask nicely Woolsey and co. will be happy to oblige your favorite dish.)

Some highlights of the menu include Burgundy snails in bone marrow and anchovies, a white wine-braised rabbit leg, and pan-fried frogs’ legs as well as classic Provencal ratatouille and Provencal-style braised beef. For dessert look for the peach bread pudding or a house-made ice cream.
