Final Four Seasons, Dock Street Collaboration Debuts Tonight

Posted by Aubrey Nagle on September 26th, 2012

The fourth and final collaboration in the Dock Street Brewery-Four Seasons Hotel Beer Four All Seasons series is debuting tonight at 6pm at the Swann Terrace at the Four Seasons, accompanied by dollar oysters. This last brew, Spanish Fly, has been created with aphrodisiac herbs from the Four Seasons rooftop garden and will be available on draft and in champagne style bottles at the Swann Lounge.

Spanish Fly ends the Beer Four All Seasons series which began with the Truffled Old Ale, brewed with winter truffles last January, and includes the Caliente Golden Ale brewed with chiles in April and the Cherry Verbena Saison which debuted during June’s Philly Beer Week.

Philly is the Late-Night Capital of the US

Posted by Aubrey Nagle on August 9th, 2012

According to the September issue of Esquire, Philadelphia is the Late-Night Capital of these here United States. The issue’s late-night eats guide contains essays about the difference between truck stops and diners, the glory that is poutine (I’d say we agree), and tons of recipes for manly food to be eaten in the wee hours of the morning. Esquire even lists all the best late-night foods from all over America– from egg rolls in Chicago to fried chicken in Louisville– but without mentioning a single food from Philly. Why? Because we got our own article about why we’re the best ever, that’s why.

Opening in Center City: Walnut Street Supper Club

Posted by Jason Sheehan on December 21st, 2011

You know what I think is awesome? Singing waiters.

No, seriously–right behind hedge fund managers and any former reality show contestant, a singing waiter is exactly who I’d want to be stuck with in a stalled elevator, for example. Or in line at the DMV. Or on a plane on a three-hour ground-delay. I mean, imagine how much we’d have to talk about, this singing waiter and me! He could tell me all about the years he’s spent crafting both his service skills and his singing voice, how he worked hard to become the best in what I have to assume is a very limited career field and then how he finally–finally!–got his big break when it was announced that the Walnut Street Supper Club would be holding auditions for singing waitstaff back in October. He could tell me how he couldn’t sleep at all the night before the audition. How he was shaking when he stepped out onto the stage. How he just nailed his rendition of “76 Trombones”–all while setting a service for 8 and seating an imaginary party.

And then I could ask him why he insisted on making baby Jesus cry by singing Le Nozze di Figaro and Judy Garland’s version of “Get Happy” at the top of his hateful little lungs in the middle of a crowded dining room while totally innocent bystanders were just trying to enjoy their antipasti and tiramisu unmolested.

And then I think we’d be pretty much done talking.

Good or Evil?: Beer Cocktails

Posted by victor fiorillo on July 1st, 2009

You’re probably going to be reading a lot in the near future about the growing trend of beer cocktails. I admit, when I first considered the idea of mixing booze and beer, I didn’t think it was a good one. But then about two years ago, I tried Standard Tap brunch bartender Shane’s Kensington 75, which pairs dark cider with dry gin, a salted Maraschino cherry, and fresh lemon. Mmm mmm good.

Kids Table benefitting Childrens Hospital
