Miga Brings Korean To Center City
Posted by Foobooz on November 2nd, 2009

Miga brings Korean food to Center City Philadelphia and Craig LaBan wonders, what took so long.
Like many Korean restaurants, Miga’s menu is huge, with both strengths and weaknesses. The place has many of the standards down pat, including the huge pajun pancakes, their crisp outsides and soft interiors laced with everything from seafood to tangy kimchi or beef and hot peppers. There is an excellent version of jap chae, the springy, clear, sweet potato noodles in lightly sweet dark sauce that, in the veggie rendition, came with the fantastic crunch of exotic, coral-like rehydrated mushrooms. The dduk bokki, tubular rice flour dumplings that resemble soft gnocchi, came in a vivid orange sauce tinged with red pepper powder that, in combination with the dumplings’ pleasantly sticky chew, stoked Miga’s hottest glow.

Brats & Beer From Garces
Posted by Foobooz on October 28th, 2009

Philadelphia Magazine is reporting that Jose Garces will be taking over Letto Deli (yes, the location once reportedly going to Stephen Starr) and will be turning it into a beer and brats spot.
We love the idea of make your own brat combos with choice of sausage, bun, toppings, sauces and mustards. Not to mention there’s something very cool about that slanted-roof building. Just do us one favor Jose, make it affordable.

One Bald Man Leaves for L.A., Another Comes to Center City?
Posted by Kirsten Henri on October 13th, 2008
As mentioned on Friday, one half of Foobooz has dropped everything to follow his beloved Phils to Los Angeles. So that leaves you all with the other half of Foobooz, who doesn’t know a bat from a puck drop and has a rotten sense of direction. I do have other redeeming qualities though, like a sharp eye for orange signs!
While cruising by the old West Coast Video at 212 S. 15th Street between Walnut and Locust, I spotted a license transfer application, posted October 9th. The entity applying for the license transfer was Max Brenner, Inc. Could it be Max Brenner, Chocolate by the Bald Man? Which is not really a he, but an Israeli chocolate company with shops in Australia, Southeast Asia and two branches in New York, one of which Frank Bruni at the New York Times reviewed and gave no stars.Â
Still, can more chocolate ever be a bad thing?Â
