The doors are closing

Michael Klein is reporting that Le Bec Fin will “retire” this June. Replacing the French icon will be a new restaurant serving “progressive American cuisine” and run by chef Justin Bogle, who is returning to Philadelphia after running the kitchen at New York’s Gilt.

Chris Scarduzio, who was Georges Perrier’s partner at several restaurants will be the new restaurant’s director of operations. Nicolas Fanucci who has been identified as the owner of Le Bec Fin has indeed recently departed and won’t be involved in the running of the new restaurant.

Current chef Steve Eckerd will land on his feet. Klein reports that the chef and his partners have landed the Mainland Inn in Montgomery County.

A New Restaurant For Chris Scarduzio

Posted by Jason Sheehan on February 14th, 2013

ArtisanBoulanger

The saga of Artisan Boulanger Patissier has gone on for a long time. It’s one of the best bakeries and pastry shops around, but has been on shaky ground for months because everyone knows the place is moving (to 1218 Miflin Street), but no one seems to know when.

Last summer, Chris Scarduzio (ex of Brasserie Perrier, currently of a bunch of other places) bought the space where Artisan currently lives, and seemed to put a clock on Artisan’s plans. But that clock has now run for a very long time.

Today, the Passyunk Post is reporting that Scarduzio has something of a plan in place for the space–one which includes a 90-day time limit on Artisan’s move, a tear-down and a long-tail scheme that will see him in possession of a brand-new 4-story building, including a restaurant, that he hopes to have open in a year or less. What’s more, since he’ll own the bricks, he plans on staying. For generations.

“This isn’t a leased place where we’ll go in for a few years. This is the kind of place I eventually want to be able to hang my hat in,” he told Albert Stumm at the Post. “Hopefully my grandchildren will come into work there.”

You can check out the whole story over at the Passyunk Post.

Scarduzio to Artisan Boulanger

Posted by Foobooz on June 27th, 2012

Chris Scarduzio (Table 31, Mia in Atlantic City)  is aiming to bring a casual Italian bistro with a focus on seafood to the former Artisan Boulanger at the intersection of 12th, Morris and Passyunk. The spot will have a liquor license and outdoor seating but a complete renovation will come before the restaurant can join the still exploding East Passyunk restaurant row.

Artisan Boulanger has not closed but  is in the process of moving to  a larger location at 1218 Mifflin Street.
