Citron & Rose

Citron & Rose Moves Forward

Posted by Jason Sheehan on May 14th, 2013

citron-rose

The last time we heard anything from Citron & Rose–the kosher restaurant opened in Merion by David Magerman, Michael Solomonov and Steve Cook–it was that Cook, Solo and their chef, Yehuda Sichel were leaving. It was a weird moment and no one really seemed to know what to make of the sudden rupturing of the partnership that had brought to the Main Line one of the most interesting restaurants it’d seen in years.

But now there’s new news from C&R, and it’s pretty big.

UPDATED: Solomonov and Cook Out At Citron & Rose?

Posted by Jason Sheehan on April 25th, 2013

Citron&RoseDiningRoom

Yes, they are. And they’re taking their chef, Yehuda Sichel, with them.

Official word has just come down from the Cook/Solo camp, saying that they “have concluded [their] consulting arrangement with Citron and Rose,” and that Sichel–who has been chef de cuisine since before the place even opened to the public–will be headed back to Zahav (where he came from) “temporarily.”

So what does all this mean? We’re not sure yet. We know that Citron & Rose is staying open (despite losing its exec chef, chef de cuisine and partners), and that owner David Magerman is still in control. But really, that’s pretty much ALL we know at the moment. You can read the statement from Cook and Solomonov yourself after the jump.

The official statement (AND UPDATES), right this way

Posted by Victor Fiorillo on February 14th, 2013

Georges Perrier

On Wednesday night, Michael Solomonov hosted a media dinner at his newest venture, Main Line kosher restaurant Citron and Rose. If you’re not familiar with how these media dinners work, I’ll briefly explain. Read the rest of this entry »

Checking In On The Prep For Bubby’s Cook Off

Posted by Jason Sheehan on January 22nd, 2013

BubbysPrep3

Hey, remember a few days ago when we told you about Bubby’s Cook Off--the cooking contest meant to showcase modern Jewish cuisine in Philly? Yeah, well that’s coming right up (like, tomorrow), and yesterday, semi-professional picture-taker and friend of Foobooz Yoni Nimrod, just happened to be out at Citron & Rose where he was able to catch chef Yehuda Sichel and his crew in the throes of their Bubby’s prep work.

Check out a couple of the snaps after the jump. And if you’re into it, maybe stop by Bubby’s tomorrow to watch Sichel, Jean-Marie Lacroix, Guillermo Pernot, Mike Deganis  and Shane Cash go mano a mano in a cooking competition that will decide who does the best (modern) Jewish food in town.

Is The Main Line A New Restaurant Boom-Town?

Posted by Jason Sheehan on January 14th, 2013

solo-main-line

Or boom-neighborhood, I guess. Or boom-region?

Whatever.

Over on the Insider, they’re reporting that yet another “Center City operation” is looking at branching out into the ‘burbs. Following in the footsteps of Michael Solomonov and Steve Cook (who opened Citron & Rose in Bala-Cynwyd last year) and Michael Schulson and Rob Wasserman (who brought The St. James to Ardmore), it looks like Nick Pashalis (of Estia and Pietro’s Coal-Oven Pizzeria) has his eye on a former Buca di Beppo on Lancaster Avenue in Wynnewood.

The project is a long way off (and will, eventually, become two projects, with the massive space being divided up between another Pietro’s and a casual version of Pashalis’s Estia), but what’s important here is that this now makes three large operators who’ve taken a look at the situation in Center City, then taken a look at the long-neglected scene out on the Main Line, and decided that maybe it was time to make the big jump. And the reason I find this mini-trend so interesting? Because it’s something we were talking about more than a year ago, when Philly mag’s Neighborhoods issue hit the stands.

Citron & Rose Has An Opening Date (And A Menu)

Posted by Jason Sheehan on November 2nd, 2012

While it seems like we’ve been waiting forever for Michael Solomonov and Steve Cook to get their newest (non-fried-chicken-and-donut) concept off the ground, we now have official word that Citron & Rose, the partners’ Glatt kosher deli at 370 Montgomery Avenue in Merion, will be opening to the public at 5pm on Wednesday, November 7. Honest to god, this has to be the best food news to happen on the Main Line in forever.

But we don’t just have the opening date. We’ve also got some details on the menu and the kosher cocktails (yeah, you read that right) being put together by Cook, Solo and chef Yehuda Sichel. Check ‘em out after the jump.
