Blue Belly BBQ Opens

The new barbecue joint from Cochon‘s Gene Giuffi, Blue Belly BBQ, will have its grand opening tomorrow at 11:30am. Blue Belly brings the love of meats Giuffi has already showcased at Cochon to a new level with American and world barbecue flavors. The menu features smoked meat platters, sandwiches with everything from Jamaican-style jerk chicken to Korean beef and Southern inspired sides.

Preview Blue Belly BBQ at Southwark

On Wednesday June 20th from 6 to 9 p.m. Southwark will be hosting the good people of Philadelphia Brewing Company and those of the soon-to-be-open Blue Belly BBQ (also the guys behind Cochon) for a summer cook-out. For $35 you get a choice of two meat dishes, two sides, a dessert, and three draft brews. Check out the full menu below.

SPTR Farmhouse Dinner

This Sunday three of our favorite things will be at South Philadelphia Taproom; farmhouse ales (Ommegang Hennepin, Sly Fox Saison Vos, Saison Dupont, St. Feuillien and more) Phillies playoff baseball and an all-you-can-eat collaborative dinner from chefs from Southwark, Cochon, Balthazar and SPTR.

It’s $50 for unlimited food and drink from 5 to 9pm and of course the Phillies will be on. We’ve been to one of these collaborative feasts before and it was definitely a dining highlight not to be missed.

Pizza Showing Up in Surprising Places

Metropolitan Bakery has added personal sized pizzas to their offerings. The pizzas are available in the Reading Terminal Market and at the 20th Street location. The pizza toppings include:

  • Mixed wild mushroom with caramelized onion and white truffle oil
  • Marguerite: housemade tomato sauce, tomatoes, basil, fresh mozzarella
  • Fig, prosciutto and candied pecans
  • Veggies with goat cheese and homemade pesto

Metropolitan Bakery adds hand-crafted pizza [Meal Ticket]

Cochon has changed up its brunch menu with new items from the smoker plus a selection of individual pizzas. Among the varieties:

  • Breakfast Pizza – ham, home fries, baked eggs, cheddar
  • Flammenküche – bacon, crème fraîche, caramelized onions, gruyère
  • Brie Pizza – pear, caramelized onion, walnuts, brie
  • Sausage Pizza – house made sausage, onion, marinara, pecorino romano
  • Tomato Pie – basil oil, parmigiano reggiano

Chef Gene Giuffi started his culinary career slinging pizzas, so this is a bit of a return to his roots.
