There are very few things in the world that make as much sense as oysters in the summertime. It’s easy math; it’s common sense; it’s comfort and splendor at the same time. Oyster House on Sansom is ready for summer.
If you go for happy hour, you’ll get $1 oysters, $3 drafts (PBC Kenzinger), $3 shooters, and $5 cocktails (Brickhouse Punch). And that’s all well and good, but sometimes, when you’re feeling good, and life’s finally got your back, spending some time and money on better oysters and better drinks will really set you free. Oyster House has a new cocktail list, and pairing their liquor with the ocean liquor is the best way to take advantage of everything that makes the sea-to-land experience such a beautiful indulgence.

Noir in South Philadelphia is celebrating the unofficial start of summer by debuting their new lemon, chocolate, and cherry Italian ice cocktails. The frozen drinks are made with ingredients from two of Noir’s East Passyunk neighbors. Mancuso’s water ice is combined with Pollyodd’s lemoncello, chocolatecello and a house infused cherry noir vodka. All are garnished with the traditional water ice accompaniment, a pretzel rod. Each cocktail is $6.

Apertivo is an Italian tradition where bars and restaurants offer small free buffets while they sell drinks at full price. Apertivo at Bufad is how a Philadelphia BYOB makes the event work for them.
This sunday night, the 13th and Spring Garden pizzeria is offering a $10, all-you-can-eat buffet that includes antipasti (beets, carrots, pickled fennel, boiled eggs, roasted olives), chicken liver pate, Roman slices of pizza and roast pork. You bring the apertif of your choice and Bufad will provide the non-alcoholic mixers. The mixers will include grapefruit and mint, strawberry and basil, and lemon and tarragon.
Apertivo runs from 8 p.m. to close on Sunday, May 12th. Salute!

On Tuesday, March 5th Steve Wildy from Alla Spina and Keith Raimondi from Lemon Hill, as well as the fine folk at Yard’s Brewery will be joining forces to create special cocktails and a beer. The team will be utilizing a barrel that has aged Vieux Carre (rye, cognac, sweet vermouth, Benedictine) for thirty days, then harbored a Tavern Spruce ale and finally another barrel-aged cocktail to create three unique drinks.
The dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. at Lemon Hill where guests will enjoy the classic Vieux Carre and then the barrel-aged version along with hors d’oeuvres. Uber car services will then shuttle guests to Alla Spina for a two-course dinner and dessert paired with the Tavern Spruce and Old Square Spruce cocktail.
The dinner is $75 per person.
If it’s confusing, Steve Wildy explains in this Weekly Wildy »

When 1 Tippling Pl. made the 2012 Foobooz Top 50 Bars list, even I, curator of that list, raised an eyebrow. But the panel had spoken, so onto the list the new Chestnut Street cocktail lounge went. And upon further inspection, it isn’t difficult to see why this newcomer made such an impression. When you walk in, you’re greeted by welcoming love seats, overstuffed leather chairs, and small tables for your drinks. The bar mixes up excellent classic cocktails like gin martinis, old-fashioneds and manhattans. “Less Common” and seasonal cocktails also make for sound choices. The Penicillin provided just the remedy for a cold night, with smoky scotch, lemon, honey and candied ginger warming me from the inside out. The only food on offer: throwback hors d’oeuvres like meatballs in Thai peanut sauce, dates wrapped in bacon, and nuts served in a clever (though only partly successful) angostura bitters glaze. Go for the drinks, though, and you won’t be let down. For sustenance, eat before or after, or stick with the kitchen’s grilled-cheese menu.
