$4 Cocktails All Month at Continental Old City

Posted by Amanda Shulman on November 2nd, 2012

Continental Restaurant and Martini Bar in Old City is putting the emphasis on the latter: the bar. Continental is embarking on its first ever “Spirit Month.” Stephen Starr’s oldest bar is maybe stretching the definition of local, but we’ll let it slide as drinks made with liquors from locally affiliated spirits, like Philadelphia Distilling, Art in the Age and Cooper Spirits, are only $4. The party lasts all month, so be sure to head to Continental and show some spirit for the home team.

Snap a shot of your $4 cocktail and post it to Instagram and you can receive a free gift.

Science Can Be Fun and Tasty

Posted by Foobooz on April 15th, 2011

The Philadelphia Science Festival kicks off today and runs through the 28th. The citywide collaboration will showcase the impact of science and technology as part of a national movement to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers. And as we all know, the best way to inspire a scientist is through his or her stomach.

The festival includes a series of food-science events by Yards Brewery, SPTR and the Continental.

Starr & Beer

Posted by Foobooz on February 24th, 2011

Last night, via Twitter we asked our followers to guess who was serving up the following draft list:

Guess the beer list: Bro. Thelonious Belgian, Bells 2 Hearted, Dock Street Man Full of Trouble, North Coast Old Rasputin, Cuvee des Jacobins

Several of Philadelphia’s better beer bars were guessed but no one came close to the correct answer, Continental Old City. The list of beers would satisfy any beer snob  and would have been unimaginable even two years ago at a Stephen Starr restaurant where the selection hovered around the Stella, Hoegaarden, Yuengling levels.

Over at the Feast is more proof of how the Starr Empire is embracing better beer. The Dandelion has started collaborating with local breweries to create special one-off firkins for the British pub. First up is a special wood-chip aged Scarlet Lady ESB from Stoudt’s.

Retro-raunt

Continental - 1972

While looking for Eyeball Benders from the Past we keep finding great old photos that don’t qualify as eyeball benders but sure are cool. So we’ve started this occasional feature, Retro-raunt.

This photo is the Continental Diner at 2nd and Market in 1972, back when Stephen Starr was just  a wee lad and decades before the diner became The Continental.

Tables for Two: Picky Eaters

Posted by Kirsten Henri on September 16th, 2008

We know, we know. You’re all such foodies that you would never dream of dating someone who wouldn’t plunge headfirst into a plate of organ meat with great gusto. Or would you? There are exceptions to every rule and sometimes those exceptions are totally hot and you want to marry or maybe even just have sex with those totally hot exceptions. Which begs the question, where do you take the dreaded Picky Eater on a date? The answer, after the jump.
