Sneak Preview: COOK’s January Schedule

Posted by Amanda Shulman on December 5th, 2012

The New Year is nearly upon us and now is the time to make some serious changes in our lives. Your New Years Resolutions are most likely to include: being nicer to your mother-in-law, trying to only eat one piece of bread from the bread basket, starting to frequent the gym, and spending more time with family and friends.

Well, that’s a nice start, but we have a little advice on how to add a some more spunk and deliciousness to your list. How about a resolution to eat amazing Mexican street food? Or what about promising to have the best Italian Super Bowl party ever? Perhaps your list is missing a vow to make your loved ones the most incredible sweets they’ve ever tasted? Have no fear, because lucky for you, COOK’s new January schedule can make these resolutions come true.

Minus those ones about the bread basket, frequenting the gym, and your mother-in-law, that is… Those are up to you.

Registration goes live at 2pm tomorrow, so ensure a delicious new year by clicking through the jump and being ready to go as soon as the clock strikes.

Sneak Preview: September At Cook

Posted by Jason Sheehan on August 8th, 2012

The September schedule of COOK classes is almost here, and we have all the juicy details for you to pore over as you wait for the ticketing to go live tomorrow afternoon.

But right up front, we can tell you about some of the big events coming. And big names, too. Like on Wednesday, September 5th, when Foobooz brings yet another Open Stove Night to COOK. Last time we had teams from Sbraga and Smoke Truck battling it out with canned food. The month before that, it was an international smackdown with Henrik “The Swedish Hammer” Ringbom from Brauhaus Schmitz vs. Kenny “Admiral Snackbar” Bush. This time around we’re calling it “Battle Brotherly Love,” so can you guess who we’re going to have in the house? Tickets for these nights go fast, so be ready to make with the clicky-clicky as soon as the September schedule lights up tomorrow.

On the 13th, Mitch Prensky from Supper is dropping by to celebrate the Jewish New Year. On the 15th, Scott Schroeder (SPTR, American Sardine Bar) will be making lots and lots (and lots) of pierogi. On the 23rd, the guys from the as-yet-unrealized Cheu Noodle will be doing another pop-up just to keep their ramen-making skills tight. And on the 27th, guess who’ll be visiting Philly and dropping by for a night at COOK…

The full September schedule, right this way…

About Last Night: East Passyunk Pop-Up At Cook

Posted by Jason Sheehan on January 19th, 2012

Joe Cicala (Le Virtu), Jennifer Conley (Stateside), George Sabatino (Stateside), Jesse Prawlucki (Fond, Belle Cakery), Lee Styer (Fond)

It began with tiny espresso cups of warm foie gras soup, ended with big coffee mugs of rum and rye under a nutmeg-sprinkled egg foam masquerading as a harmless after-dinner cappucino, and in between there was a handmade pasta demo, tiny little finger-thick tuille cannoli, a dry gin Vesper with persimmon, roasted squab attended by their own confit legs, tales of saffron smuggling in Abruzze and rabbit agnolotti topped with slips of black truffle that all the cooks (plus me and Art) ended up eating in the basement–gathered around the still-warm pan, stabbing the little ravioli with forks, swearing that we were going to eat just one more, then going back in for another and another and another.
