Craft & Claw Closes in Old City

Posted by Foobooz on January 29th, 2013

craft-and-claw

Sunday night was the final night for Craft & Claw in Old City. The replacement for Mad River had been well received by the critics in its three month run but its clubby past may have caught up with it. Word on the street points to lawsuits from its Mad River club days and a suit from a neighbor are contributing factors to its closing.

Craft & Claw Aims to “Undouche” Old City

Posted by Foobooz on December 13th, 2012

Adam Erace reviews Craft & Claw, the seafood spot that has taken over Mad River in Old City. In it he finds a grown up spot where the crabs and other menu items are worth ordering.

Tucker and Co. made a mature, respectable move turning a lucrative den of sin and white zin into a smart establishment worth patronizing, and Fabian has the talent to keep things afloat. Support them and their worthy cause, the undoucheing of Old City, one block at a time.

Craft & Claw: Eat Here, Get Crabs

Posted by Jason Sheehan on October 24th, 2012

For those of you out there who are crazy for eating sea critters, Craft & Claw in Old City has a deal for you.

Actually, they have four deals for you–one for each night of the week that isn’t a weekend. And every one of them represents a way for you, the discriminating shellfish consumer, to jam as much delicious seafood into your snack-hole as possible, for the least amount of money.

Craft & Claw Coming To Old City

Posted by Jason Sheehan on July 31st, 2012

Over at Eater, they’re reporting that the space recently vacated by Old City douche-magnet Mad River is shortly to become Craft & Claw a crab-and-craft-beer joint (get it?) being brought to town by Max Tucker of Baltimore’s Bond Street Social. We talked about this a few days ago when the news about Mad City first broke (to much raucous applause), but it’s good to get confirmation.

So what will one find at Craft & Claw? Lots of crab. Lots of beer. Chef Nick Fabian from Anastasi Seafood. And, likely, us since all three of those things sound pretty good right about now.

Tragically, there’s no opening date set yet. Or even hinted at. So the odds are pretty bad that the place will be open by, say, dinner time tonight.

Mad River in Old City Closes

Posted by Foobooz on July 25th, 2012

Posted on the Mad River web site is this note marking the closing of the Old City nightclub. The Manayunk location remains open.

The ownership of Mad River Bar & Grille Old City would like to thank it’s many loyal patrons for an amazing 8 years. We have decided to close this location. Please visit our Manayunk location at 4100 main street. Mad River Manayunk is Philadelphia’s best private party destination. Don’t forget to check out our beautiful deck. Thanks again,

the Mad River Team.

But what Old City takes away, Old City gives. Tantra Luxe Lounge has opened, replacing Prive at 246 Market Street.

UPDATE: Joe Sixpack’s newsletter reports that Mad River will reopen as Craft & Claw “with good beer and seafood…”
