Cafe L’Aube Returns to Graduate Hospital

Posted by Foobooz on January 16th, 2013

Cafe L’Aube has returned to Graduate Hospital, opening inside the NextFab Studio space at 2025 Washington Avenue. The cafe serves coffee, French pastries and of course, crepes. Cafe L’Aube’s original location was on the 1500 block of South Street but closed shortly after owner Jean-Luc Fanny opened his second location in Fairmount.

Fanny will also be roasting out of the location and his roaster hooked up and ready to go. And this opening is just the latest for what looks to be an empire on the making. Fanny is also looking to open near Rittenhouse Square.

As for NextFab Studio, it looks to be a high-tech playground for Philadelphia artists and innovators. Check out the grand opening tomorrow.

Coffee and Crepes and Shakes, Oh My!

Posted by Maegan Cadet on December 10th, 2012

Who says crepes are only for the French? No one really, but the question had to be asked because Philly is set to get one more creperie: Global Crepes and Local Shakes.  Set to open in Passyunk Square this January, owner Liza Iezzi is hoping to bring good food and memories, inspired by a shop her grandfather owned on 11th and Christian.

The cafe will serve coffee, crepes, homemade shakes, and an assortment of teas, ice creams, and wraps. If you want to get a sneak peek at Iezzi’s crepes, head over to Christmas Village at Love Park, where she’s serving crepes and baked waffles. Rumor has it Nutella is involved.

Cafe L’Aube Comes to Washington Avenue

Posted by Maegan Cadet on October 19th, 2012

Cafe L’Aube owner Jean-Luc Fanny has confirmed that he will be opening another French Cafe (and he stresses that this is not a coffee shop) at 2025 Washington Avenue.

Through a collaboration with  NextFab Studio, owned by Rex 1516 owner Evan Malone, Cafe L’Aube will occupy the resident cafe space in the new NextFab Studio facility at 2025 Washington Avenue.

The new cafe will offer the same types crepes and coffee served at Cafe L’Aube, and is tentatively set to open on December 1, 2012.

So Crepe Coming to South Street West

Posted by Foobooz on October 17th, 2012

We here at Foobooz World Headquarters shed more than one tear when creperie and coffee shop Cafe L’Aube closed on South Street. So imagine our excitement when we spotted signs for So Crêpe at 1506 South Street. Owner Fabrice Goutte told us that So Crepe will be a casual restaurant of course focusing on crepes. The restaurant’s tagline is “So Simple, So Healthy, So Gourmet, So French.” Goutte and his partners hope to be open before the year is out but the former salon will need a complete redo before it becomes a crepe spot.

Roti, Crespelle, and Other Crepe-Like Objects

Posted by Aubrey Nagle on August 30th, 2012

Researching for our Foobooz Six Pack on crepes in Philadelphia got us thinking about other thin pancake-like dishes that we’ve seen around town. From Italian, to Trinidadian, to Ethiopian varieties it is clear that crepes are not just for Francophiles anymore.

New Openings on Baltimore Avenue

Posted by Aubrey Nagle on August 28th, 2012

Two new restaurants are adding to Baltimore Avenue’s already full restaurant district. The first is Hibiscus, a vegetarian café that opened two weeks ago at 4907 Catharine St. Though they are currently without an online presence, Hibiscus is in full swing serving up smoothies, juices, vegetarian and vegan fare from $2 to $10. A full menu to post online is in the works as are concrete hours, but for now Hibiscus is open from 10 to 8 p.m. every day.

The second addition, Rue 52, is a creperie and espresso bar coming to 503 S. 52nd Street. Rue 52 will serve a Philadelphia twist on traditional French café fare from 7:30-6pm Monday-Thursday, 7:30-7pm Friday and Saturday, and 10-6pm on Sundays. The café plans to open to the public on September 15th but will confirm it via their Facebook and Twitter as the date moves closer.

Posted by Aubrey Nagle on June 20th, 2012

Tomorrow, Thursday June 21st from 4 to 7 p.m. Sofitel Philadelphia is celebrating Fete de la Musique, a popular French holiday which celebrates music and marks the start of summer.

To celebrate Sofitel is creating a Street Fair with stilt walkers, mimes, a strong man, and roaming musicians which will make their way inside, turning the lobby and bar into a Parisian Musical Extravaganza for the general public. More importantly there will be FREE crepes.

Crepe Town Opens in Bellevue

Posted by Foobooz on October 21st, 2011

Crepe Town is the latest vendor to open in the Bellevue Food Court. The stand is owned by locals Mike and Julie Bartfield. The stand will serve breakfast and lunch and feature both sweet and savory crepes. Get there for breakfast for a free coffee or tea.

Crepes run from $4.25 to $6.95, which seems reasonable to us.
