Diving Horse in Avalon Adds Chef’s Table

Posted by Foobooz on July 12th, 2012

Most chef’s tables are located in the kitchen and that kitchen might be hot and steamy. At Avalon’s Diving Horse, the only way the chef’s table will be hot and steamy is if that’s the weather outside. As the above photo shows, this chef’s table is not even in the restaurant but does offer a good view into the kitchen where Jonathan Adams and his team are cooking up a seasonal menu of  delights form land and sea.

The table seats from six to eight.

Greatest Hits and What You Missed:

Posted by Jason Sheehan on August 26th, 2011

Didn’t you hear? The damn hurrica-pocalypse is coming! You’re supposed to be out there boarding your windows and panic-buying cans of tuna fish, so what are you doing sitting on your ass reading food news?

Ah, well. For those of you who’ve decided to bunker-down in front of your computers this weekend, here’s what you might’ve missed while stocking up on whiskey and Oreos in anticipation of the coming storm.

Moon Out At Talula’s Garden The story that started as a rumor and exploded into a mini-industry for food writers this week
Collingswood Gets a Krispy Kreme Donuts, donuts, donuts, donuts, donuts…
Geno’s Joey Vento Dead at 71 Hope English is the official language of heaven. Otherwise, Joey is in trouble
Bindi to Become Jamonera And yeah, it’s your fault
New Digs For Fish Mike Stollenwerk swims upstream
Oktoberfest Guide Beer and pretzels (and squash) for everyone
Think You Can Guess The Next Talula’s Garden Chef? Then step up to the mic and prove it
Diving Horse Pop-Up on Saturday One of the benefits of a catastrophic storm, I guess

Stay dry, everyone. See you all on Monday.

It Was a Good Food Weekend

Ratatouille at the Diving Horse - Jason Varney | Fussing with Forks

This weekend was a good weekend of eating despite the gross temperatures. It started Friday night with dinner and drinks at Percy Street Barbecue. The molten mac and cheese may have been served at the same temperature as it was outside but its browned breading and cheesey ooze made it a whole lot more welcome than the humidity filled air. Turkey tails and pinto beans also were a hit. It was my first time back at Percy in some time and I really enjoyed it all. A suggested whiskey, served over a single giant cube of ice provided a fine ending and old-time relief to the heat and my just extracted tooth.

After dinner my friends and I continued battling the heat with a stop at Brauhaus Schmitz. After ordering a round of sehr kalt Gaffel Kolsch chef Jeremy Nolen stopped by and said dropped off Flammkuchen, a German flatbread topped with asparagus, goat cheese, smoked garlic and radish. Even stuffed from Percy Street the assembled had no problem polishing off the plate. . Nolen has recently updated the menu with some more modern German dishes and is now making three sausages in house as well as all of the charcuterie and Schinkenplatte, pickled items.

Opening Menu for Diving Horse

Posted by Foobooz on May 20th, 2011

The Diving Horse opens today in Avalon and if you have a chance to dine at the BYOB by the Pub & Kitchen crew this summer we highly recommend you take it.

A couple weeks ago we stopped in at  Pub & Kitchen to visit Chef Jonathan Adams and to see how preparations for the shore were going and to take some photos of and sample some of the dishes that will make their way on to the menu at The Diving Horse.
