Dock Street Brewing and their partners at the Four Seasons are continuing their collaborative beer seasons. Yesterday was brew day for their summer beer, Crackle and Squeeze. Look for this beer, made with meyer lemons and cracked pink and black peppers to debut during Philly Beer Week.
Right now, you can still drink the spring seasonal, O.P. Yum (oates and pomegranate beer) at The Lounge in the Four Seasons. A reasonable way to end an afternoon of museums or Center City shopping.

It has been years, but tomorrow night, Wednesday, March 13, Dock Street will be putting their Illuminator Dopplebock on tap for the masses.
Oh, but that’s not all. In celebration of this momentous event, they’ll be serving a special Weckerly’s Ice Cream called “Figgy Bock” that was made with Illuminator Dopplebock, honey and a swirl of fig compote. Weirdest sundae ever, sure, but also rather tasty. And as if that wasn’t enough, Dock Street will also be slinging a special Bavarian pizza for the night.
The fun starts at 4pm and is scheduled to go until midnight. You have Foobooz’s permission to kick off work early to get there.

Yards Brewing used to brew Trubbel de Yards as a seasonal when the brewery was but a young pup in the late-nineties. The beer is described on its label as a “Belgian-style tripel dubbel ale.” The beer promises aromas of biscuit, chocolate and caramel, with the spiciness of a tripel and the maltiness of a dubbel. It made a very limited return in 2012 but this year promises a wider distribution. The beer is currently available in big bottles at the brewery and will start showing up on store shelves after the new year. On Thursday, January 24th, the beer will be officially launched at Johnny Brenda’s. Mark your calendars now.

Tonight at 4 p.m. Dock Street Brewing is debuting a new beer, Nino’s Prickly Pears. The beer is inspired by a recent trip to Sicily by Dock Street owner Rosemarie Certo. While there, Sicilian born Certo enjoyed figs, grapes, olives, pistachios and of course, fichi d’india (prickly pears).
The beer is a ruby red, biere de garde style created by brewer Scott Morrison. Look for notes of kiwi, raspberry and bubblegum notes if you want to treat this beer like a wine.
Bartenders are also mixing a Prickly Pear beer cocktail for the event tonight.
Look for Nino’s Prickly Pears this week and beyond at Dock Street as well as at select beer bar around town.

The fourth and final collaboration in the Dock Street Brewery-Four Seasons Hotel Beer Four All Seasons series is debuting tonight at 6pm at the Swann Terrace at the Four Seasons, accompanied by dollar oysters. This last brew, Spanish Fly, has been created with aphrodisiac herbs from the Four Seasons rooftop garden and will be available on draft and in champagne style bottles at the Swann Lounge.
Spanish Fly ends the Beer Four All Seasons series which began with the Truffled Old Ale, brewed with winter truffles last January, and includes the Caliente Golden Ale brewed with chiles in April and the Cherry Verbena Saison which debuted during June’s Philly Beer Week.

Apparently, US and French brewers have never before collaborated on a single beer. This seems strange to me–either a comment on the quality of French beer in general, or proof of the difficulty of translating the highly specialized language of zymology (like “tastes great,” “less filling” and “Budweiser Platinum”) between the two languages.
But that all ends now. The crew at Dock Street has been in the process of breaching this cultural divide since June and have now announced that La Biere des Amis–the first ever US-French beer collaboration in America, made with the help of the folks from Brasserie Thiriez in Esquelbec–is just about ready to hit the taps.

Every two years the Brewers’ Association concludes their conference with the World Beer Cup Awards. Brewers from all over the world compete to win in a variety of beer styles and other categories.
Locally, Dock Street won a bronze for Prisoner of Hell in the Belgian-style Strong Pale Ale category and Tröegs came home with a bronze medal for Troegenator. But the big winner was Iron Hill Brewery, the Media location won gold medals for its Old Ale and Russian Imperial Stout, while the orignal Newark location received a bronze in smoked beer. The chain also claimed the top spot for Small Brewpub of the Year.
Congrats to all the winners.
