Blue Bear Tavern Closed (Again) but What’s Next?

Posted by Foobooz on March 19th, 2012

HughE Dillon reports that 12th Street’s Blue Bear Tavern is out of commission again. The bar which replaced the legendary and sometimes notorious Doc Watson’s seemed to struggle from the beginning and was closed for part of February before having a “grand reopening.” Eater is rumor-mongering that the team behind Farmers’ Cabinet is scoping the place out. Us, we hear a shamrocked conglomerate is looking at the space.

Dr. Watson’s Now Open

Posted by Foobooz on December 6th, 2006

The new old Dr. Watson’s is back open on South 11th Street. Under the stewardship of its original owner, the now 74 year old Barry Sandrow. Changing the name from Doc Watson’s to Dr. Watson’s seems like a sure-fire way to get beyond the sizable shadow of the bar’s scandalous past under Daniel Flynn, where the bar was caught with nearly 100 underage drinkers hiding out in a 4th floor apartment.

Burgers at the Dr. Watson’s are $6.75 and the fillet and veal dishes are the most expensive, at $18.95.

Dr. Watson’s Is Days Away

Posted by Foobooz on November 20th, 2006

Michael Klein reports that Dr. Watson’s Pub on 11th Street between Walnut and Locust streets is just days from opening. All that remains before opening is a Liquor Control Board walk-through.

Hopefully this incarnation will card patrons a bit more rigorously. The old Doc Watson’s came to a screeching halt after 100 minors were found in the bar back in March of 2005.

Cebu Coming Soon

Posted by Foobooz on September 13th, 2006

Philadelphia Weekly is running an ad in this week’s paper, page 87, for Cebu Restaurant & Bar, Coming Soon. “Old City’s newest restaurant concept.” We haven’t seen anything else on Cebu but assume it would be a Filipino restaurant.

Elsewhere in today’s Weekly there is an ad stating that the new/old Dr. Watson’s will open this month.

Doc Watson’s Is Coming Back

Posted by Foobooz on May 25th, 2006

Under old management no less. And not the management that stuffed 80+ underage kids in a top floor apartment, but even older management. Original owner Barry Sandrow promises the return of a traditional neigborhood pub with one notable change, Dr. Watson’s Pub will be smoke free.
