Usually a Sunday with an Eagles versus Cowboys game is a big deal. But not this Sunday, this Sunday it’s a dud. And Chef Evan Turney is marking the turkey of a game at Varga Bar by frying turkeys outside of Varga Bar.
The turkeys will be served with a choice of two sides: roasted garlic mashed potatoes, sweet yams, pecan leek and sausage stuffing with sage, sauteed kale, and orange cranberry chutney. Each plate comes with mushroom gravy, and costs $30 per person. The turkeys will be run from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. and there will also be whiskey and beer specials throughout the day.

Aramark and Lincoln Financial Field have partnered up with Kevin Sbraga of Top Chef fame to bring a brand new sandwich to the concession stands. Eagles fans can pick up the Sloppy Jose – a short rib and chorizo sandwich topped with queso Chihuahua and slaw, served with chips – on either side of the club level every game day. We’re always looking for ways to watch the NFL while drinking better beer than comes in aluminum bottles. City Tap House seems to be speaking directly to us with today’s Belgian Beer Blitz celebrating the kickoff of the NFL season tonight.
The University City mega-beer bar will be serving up St. Bernardus Wit, St. Bernardus Tripel, Abbe de Rocs Tripel, Duchese de Bourgogne and Nostradamus Belgian Brown this evening.
City Tap House won’t be the only bar serving good beer with football today and this weekend. Keep checking back to this post for the latest good beer deals we find.

The Sports Business Journal has the details on the $70 million refurb for ten-year old Lincoln Financial Field. Of most interest to the Foobooz audience is the mention of a stand alone brew pub.
A brewpub, which would be a free-standing building, also is proposed for the HeadHouse Plaza, a 100,000-square-foot area outside the stadium now used for interactive zones and corporate tailgating before Eagles games, college football and other special events.
No mention of what brewery would run the brew pub but that won’t stop us from hoping that the Eagles keep it local.

Seared ahi tuna, jumbo shrimp and crab claw cocktails poached in court bouillon with lemons and Grey Goose-spiked cocktail sauce. Hot London broil with a horseradish cheddar cheese, chopped brisket with jalapeño slaw. And of course, crab fries, cheesesteaks and the Schmitter.
We’re not talking about another food festival here, or some new world cuisine gastropub. No, these are the highlights from Lincoln Financial Field’s 2011-2012 menu for concessions, club and suite level seating. Aramark executive chef James Hennessey, (ex of the Borgata) and stadium staff revealed the menu to members of the media late Wednesday morning at the stadium.

We put out the call for football specials earlier this week. We combed Twitter feeds, surfed Facebook pages and alas we have come up practically empty.
So we turn to you dear readers, who is offering football specials this weekend that are better than aluminum bottles of swill?
Here is an unusual trio of spots to get you started:
Pizzeria Stella – Stephen Starr’s only restaurant with a TV is offering $3 beer specials and small bites not regularly on the menu during Monday Night Football.
Percy Street Barbecue – We really like the beer selection at Percy Street and we really like the sound of this; $2 pints of Victory beers during all Eagles games.
Distrito – Â Come with an empty stomach on Monday as it is all you can eat tacos and enchiladas for $25 during Monday Night Football.
Not an Eagles fan? Thrillist has the places to watch the Browns, Jets, Steelers, Bills and Patriots.
