Iron Hill Brewery will be hosting the Brandywine Valley Craft Brewers Festival this Saturday, May 18, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Iron Hill’s Media location. 25 breweries from all over the Brandywine Valley will be showcasing their brews at the event, which will also feature live music. Tickets to the event cost $45 if you are drinking and $5 if you get stuck as the designated driver. Make sure you get your tickets fast because there are only a handful left. Food prepared by the Iron Hill Brewery will be pay as you go. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Media Youth Center.

Kevin James Holland, the operator of West Philadelphia’s Fiume, is a serious fan of the brown liquors, and this Friday, he’s launching the bar’s third annual whiskey festival. Greensgrow Farms will be holding their 5th Annual Subaru Fall Festival on October 6th from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the day’s festivities include their yearly Chili Competition. Rain or shine contestants’ best secret chili recipes will go head-to-head during the tasting from 1-3 p.m. Entries can be beef, chicken, vegan, vegetarian, bean, no-bean – pretty much any way you want ‘em – and must be submitted (fully cooked) by 11 a.m. on the day of the festival. To enter you must register here by October 2.
This year the judges will be the festival public. Event attendees can pay $5 for a Subaru Fall Festival tasting mug and the chance to taste the competitors’ recipes. Ballots will be cast and the winner will be revealed at 3:45 p.m. The grand prize is a $200 Greensgrow gift card and the second prize will be The Rodale Whole Foods Cookbook and a year’s subscription to Organic Gardening Magazine. The third prize winner will receive a $50 gift card to a local restaurant.
Greensgrow’s Fall Festival will otherwise be filled with craft and harvesting demonstrations, cider pressing, face painting, craft vendors, and opportunities to visit the farm’s animals. Food vendors like Little Baby’s and Local 215 will be on hand and George Sabatino of Stateside will do a tasting and demonstration from 11:30 to 1:30 p.m.

The first Wyebrook Farm Dinner will be taking place on September 22nd at 7 p.m. The dinner will co-hosted by Wyebrook’s Dean Carlson and Pub & Kitchen’s Jonathan Adams. The $80 per person, five-course BYOB dinner will take place on the top of Wyebrook’s refurbished barn where guests can chat with Carlson and Adams.

Next Sunday ,July 29th from noon to 5 p.m. East Passyunk Avenue will be turned into a car show and street festival from Dickinson to Broad. Along with the 140-plus vehicles competing for Best of Show there will be vendors, live music, circus performers, kids activities, and the Bang! Boom! Craft! Show all for free.
Most importantly, of course, there will be plenty of food from EPA’s restaurants. Participating restaurants include Marra’s, Mamma Mia, Noir, and Plenty. Cantina Los Caballitos and El Zarape will be serving their menus and specials outdoors while Birra and Le Virtu will be holding outdoor beer gardens for the event. Stogie Joe’s will also be having an outdoor craft beer bar.
Little Baby’s Ice Cream will be rolling around during the festival and from 11:30-5pm Ms. Goody Cupcake will be celebrating its Cupcake & Cars: One Year Anniversary Party. The party will be full of samples, new treat debuts, prizes, and a car-themed cake cutting at 2pm.

We don’t think food reviewers should only cover restaurants that have coat checks and good stemware but why cover a place that doesn’t seem to be into the food they serve? But that’s where City Paper heads this week in their review of Festivals in West Philadelphia.
It’s clear that the space, with its sunny yellow- and orange-striped walls, list of tropical-flavored cocktails and busy calendar of soca and dance-hall DJ nights, is — at least for now — more geared toward the party crowd than the dining one. In fact, the servers all seemed a bit surprised that we’d shown up expecting to be fed.
