Tuesday is All-You-Can-Eat Snow Crabs at the Field House

Snow crabs tend to be weirdly addicting. You crack one open, suck it down, and sooner or later you’re ten deep, you’re covered in crab carcasses, and you have no idea what year it is.

At least that’s been the constant on my end…

The Convention Center’s recently renovated sports bar/beer hall, Field House, is now offering snow crabs every Tuesday, all you can eat of them. For $25, chef Andrew Brown (previously of White Dog and Opa) will serve you an endless supply of snow crab, fries, and drawn butter. They’re an easy pair with local crafts too, so grab a long table, throw down some beers, and gluttonize in snow crabs forever.

Bubble Hockey Tournament This Weekend at the Fieldhouse

This Saturday, the Field House is sponsoring a bubble hockey tournament. $10 admission gets you into the tournament, two Stoudts drafts and a Winter Classic ’13 t-shirt. Will you be able to beat Team Foobooz?

Win a Trip to Belgium With Your Favorite Brewer

This Saturday at the revamped Field House, Philly Beer Week will be holding its third annual raffle to win a trip to Belgium for you and your favorite brewer.

The lucky winner and brewer will then get to travel to Belgium to brew a world-class beer for Philly Beer Week 2013. This year the beer will be brewed at the renowned De La Senne brewery in Brussels. De La Senne is known for their Taras Bulba (one of our favorites) among other highly regarded beers.

A second place winner will receive a Philly Beer-Stravaganza gift package, packed with great beer and Beer Week festival tickets.

Ballots are $5 each or 5 for $20. All proceeds benefit Philly Beer Week. You can vote online, or print the official ballot and bring it to the final drawing on Saturday, January. 12. The drawing will happen right before 3 p.m.

Field House Reopening This Weekend with Andrew Brown in the Kitchen

We’ve long wished that the Field House next to Reading Terminal Market was the big mega-sized sports bar that we could recommend to tourists and others go. And with its renovation and reopening set for this weekend, maybe with the help of two Andys, it will finally become that.

Andrew Brown, who is leaving Opa on Sansom Street is going to be taking over the kitchen. Brown’s menu will contain Philadelphia staples and other dishes that harkan back to Brown’s days at the White Dog Cafe. And with the Reading Terminal Market across the street, fresh and local shouldn’t be too difficult.

The beer program is being managed by Andy Farrell who also stewards the City Taphouse program. The forty-tap system will stress local beers including some from the next generation of small brewers who have been popping up in the area.

Sports Bar Coming To Reading Terminal

As we hinted at in today’s Metro the Public House people are taking over the Independence Brew Pub and installing a sports bar, the Field House.

THE OWNERS of the Public House (18th & Cherry) will soon open the Field House (1150 Filbert), a giant, high-end sports bar on the site of the former Independence Brew Pub, which closed abruptly last month.
Brian Harrington confirmed yesterday that he and partner Gary Cardi signed a lease last week on the property and are hoping for a Nov. 15 opening.

They’re going for a similar American fare menu to their popular Public House, and Harrington says “it’s not your onion rings and frozen appetizers type of place.” The bar will have a raw bar and the pair hope to attract conventioneers as well as catering to a local crowd.
