First Friday

Free First Friday Chimay at Bottle Bar East

Posted by Foobooz on December 7th, 2012

We made our first stop at Bottle Bar East a couple weeks ago and really enjoyed the chill vibe and all those coolers full of beer to choose from. Tonight they’re offering a free Chimay tasting from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. And the Frankford Avenue bar is following that up with live jazz from the Victor North Trio till 11 p.m.

Hawk Krall Show on First Friday

Posted by Aubrey Nagle on July 5th, 2012

This July 6th, as part of First Friday gallery events, Hawk Krall will be showing his work at Space 1026 from 6 to 10 p.m. Hawk Krall is a local artist who specializes in drawing crazy hot dogs and the streets of Philly in his signature style, as well as writing about hot dogs for Serious Eats. Krall is the also artist behind the illustrations of Hot Diggity’s menu, the Po-Boy t-shirts for Khyber Pass Pub, and our Foobooz East Passyunk Totes.

Though there will be no hot dog illustrations at the gallery opening there is sure to be a great deal of Krall’s take on Philadelphia in mostly black and white with a few full color paintings on wood. More importantly, of course, there will be beer and tomato pie. Yes, I repeat: beer and tomato pie. Awesome artwork from a fellow foodie, with food….do you need any more reasons to go?

Finally, A Reason To Stop Whining About First Fridays

Posted by Tara Nurin on September 2nd, 2011

We’ve long wondered where the forces behind First Friday (the real original one in Old City) get off throwing a party without serving any wine. Seriously, what’s the point of crawling through art galleries if you can’t get any hooch in ya? Gallery owners in New York understand this. Heck, even gallery owners in Helena, Arkansas get it. But here in Philly, it’s worse than BYOB. It’s “You’re not allowed to walk around with open containers so stay sober unless you’re friends with the artist and he sneaks you some of his secret stash, sucker. May I interest you in buying some art?”
