The Hammer of Glory has gone missing. The symbol of Philadelphia Beer Week, a nine pound, four-foot long, silver-topped sledgehammer is inscribed with the word “BEER” and answers to “HOG.” It was last seen on Frankford Avenue around 4:30 p.m. Saturday during the FestivaALE street party.
If you come in contact with the Hammer of Glory, please take it to the nearest bar participating in Philly Beer Week.

UPDATE: The Hammer of Glory has been found, reportedly under I-95. Mmmm, hmmm.

Fishtown’s newest eatery, Cedar Point Bar & Kitchen has gotten a lot of buzz since opening this spring at a six-point intersection less than a mile from Johnny Brenda’s, the neighborhood’s flagship restaurant. Sadly, the kitchen didn’t live up to the hype on my visit. From the mushy BBQ grilled cheese sandwich to the way-undercooked greens to the fried pickles that lost their crispy batter jackets at the slightest touch, dinner was a big disappointment. The chicken-and-waffles and goat-cheese-filled beet ravioli (with beets replacing pasta in the dish) only slightly raised the bar from the absolute bottom. Still, vegans may appreciate the many options the menu holds for them (including a vegan “cheese” board), and the bartenders are warmer than most in this too-cool-for-school neighborhood. But unless you’re a liquor-loving vegetable enthusiast, there’s really very little reason to spend any time here.

The Mugshot Diner in Fishtown is opening for business this Thursday. The 150-seat diner will be serving classic diner favorites in a fresh looking space. Omelets, fritattas, pancakes, waffles, and the rest of the breakfast items will be served all day long. The lunch and dinner menu includes salads, burgers, sandwiches and some fancier, less diner like entree dishes.
Hopefully the Mugshot will become a great neighborhood diner, something that Fishtown could certainly use. The diner will be open 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. Sunday through Wednesday, 7 a.m. to 3 a.m. on Thursday, and 24 hours on Friday and Saturday.
Check out the full Mugshot Diner menu.

Every Thursday night at Fishtown’s Cedar Point Bar and Kitchen, chef Shannon Dougherty cooks up a “Louisiana Boil.” The boil can contain anything from crawfish to mussels to crabs to shrimp and is usually served with andouille sausage, potatoes, corn on the cob, or French bread for just $15.
Cedar Point also has some great happy hours specials from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. to 12 a.m. on Thursdays so you can enjoy a refreshing drink with your boil. Tonight, Dougherty is tossing shrimp and crawfish into the boil. If you can’t make it tonight, have no fear as this boil is turning into a Thursday tradition at the new Fishtown spot.

Adam Erace’s knees buckle over the pizzas that Joe Beddia is putting out at his Pizzeria Beddia on Girard Avenue.
Only two or three pies are offered nightly, including the mainstay red No.1 pie, with its fresh and dried mozzarella, Old Gold (a local aged Gouda whose sharpness stands in for Parm) and deeply crimson, crushed-Jersey-tomato base. “I thought, ‘What’s the most Italian thing I could do?’ And it was to use tomatoes from New Jersey instead of ones from Pompeii,” Beddia says. House-picked Serrano chilies are a nice touch for acid and heat.
The No. 2 is Beddia’s white, a canvas of rich local cream and mozzarella accessorized seasonally. I got ramps, kale, bacon — and tinfoil to take home the extra. As I left I got a heartfelt thanks from Beddia, who bids each customerarrivaderci. He almost glows with gratitude. We should be the ones thanking him.

Today, Tuesday, April 23
rd,
Kraftwork launches
Kinetic Collaboration, a Kristal Weizenbock beer brewed at
Yards Brewing Company. This special brew is an American take on a traditional German Weizenbock and comes in at 7.1% alcohol by aroma. The aroma is a balance of clove and banana with a refreshing touch of grapefruit from the addition of Centennial hops.
A portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to Kinetic Sculpture Derby.
The event also raises awareness for Trenton Avenue Arts Festival, which is set for Saturday, May 18th. At least two sculptures that have participated in the derby in the past will be out on the sidewalk and the representatives from Yards will also be on hand.
