Suburban Snacks: Dougnuts and Cupcakes

Bensalem’s Krispy Kreme will open on Monday, November 21st on Street Road near Hulmeville Road. We’re sure with this being the fourth Krispy Kreme in the area, this opening will be a calm and almost ho-hum affair. Or not, the people love their Krispy Kremes, ourselves included. Cupcakeology, Delaware County’s first cupcake bakery is having its grand opening this Saturday at 320 MacDade Boulevard in Collingdale. The cupcakery will be giving away 50-free cupcakes an hour and one free with every purchase. [Cupcakeology]

Firecreek in Voorhees opened last week. The sequel to the Downingtown Firecreek is a bit more intimate than the original. [Firecreek]

Franco’s Osteria has closed on City Avenue. Original owner Franco Faggi jumped ship last Spring. Faggi’s Fiorino has been packing them in across the river in East Falls. The tiny Indian Queen Lane BYOB is crowded for lunch and dinner. [The Insider]

Quick Bites

Twenty Manning is getting a redo. The 10-year old Rittenhouse Square restaurant will close for a month. Gone will be the Asian fusion menu and in will be a more neighborhood friendly spot and perhaps a new name. [The Insider]

Greg Ling is now in the kitchen at Paul and Meal Ticket has the revamped menu. [Meal Ticket]

Ian Cross, owner of the interactive design and marketing company I-Site is taking over the Trestle Inn at 11th and Callowhill. Cross was mum about any details. [The Insider]

20 types of specialty rolls highlight the menu at the latest Sansom Street sushi spot, Jay’s Favorite Sushi Bar. [Meal Ticket]

Franco’s Osteria opened Saturday night at the Presidential on City Avenue. It’s basically the same menu as what was served at Franco’s Trattoria in East Falls. [The Insider]

Quick Bites: Openings

So without further ado, our Quick Bites focusing just on upcoming and recent openings.

Stephen Starr’s beer garden concept got the approval of the neighborhood 158-11 despite a hard-of-hearing gentleman worrying about the noise. With indoor and outdoor options we’re really intrigued how this turns out.

500°, the burger place from Rouge’s Rob and Maggie Wasserman is looking to open by March 17th. [The Insider]

Delicatessen has opened at 7th and Chestnut. They feature classic Jewish deli staples and nouveau takes like Sephardic Ceviche, citrus cured salmon with red onion and capers. [Meal Ticket]

Michael Klein has a bit more on Hoof + Fin which has opened on 3rd Street in the former Gayle address. [Philadelphia Inquirer]

Brown Betty Dessert Boutique is opening its third location. This one in the re-imaging itself Shops at Liberty Place. [Grub Street]

Ro-Zu will be soft opening at 7th and Bainbridge this weekend. The grand opening for the Japanese restaurant will be Monday, March 15th. [Meal Ticket]

Inqlings has more on Rob McElhenney and Kaitlin Olson’s (Mac and Sweet Dee on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) involvement in taking over Old City’s Skinner’s and recasting it as Mac’s Olde Towne Tavern. [Inqlings]

Avenida opened Thursday night on Germantown in Mt. Airy. It’ll be a Latin menu from Edgar and Kim Alvarez who met at Striped Bass. [Meal Ticket]

Looking to get into the GQ praised Bibou? Here’s another obstacle, owners Pierre and Charlotte Calmels will be closing for two weeks’ vacation starting January 17th. [Inqlings]

Parx Casino has opened in Bensalem with some new eating options. There’s a parxgrill, a steakhouse, 360 Bar, Foodie’s and coming in March, a new Chickie’s and Pete’s with Chickie’s videogame bar, Play2.

Maccabeam has become Glatt Delight. No other changes are noticeable. [Meal Ticket]

Eagle Village, formerly Spread Eagle Village has added two new eateries. A Taste of Britain has moved in from Devon and offers tea nd lunch. Early January will see the opening of Silverspoon, a farm to table BYOB for the Main Line. [Restaurant Club]

Franco Faggi is bolting from East Falls for City Avenue and the former O’Hara’s. He is aiming to open Franco’s Osteria, a wood-fired oven spot by late January. Faggi’s former spot, Franco’s Trattoria remains open under the control of the landlord. [The Insider]
