Editor’s Note: This week, we’re going to be introducing our new army of interns to you, the Foobooz readership. And it occurred to us that what better way for you to get to know them a little then for them to tell you all about something they loved to eat? Thus, we set them each to assembling their own Foobooz Six Pack, focusing on something they craved.
Amanda Shulman is our next contributor. This is what she had to say for herself: “I’m Amanda Shulman and I’m obsessed with anything edible. As a sophomore at the University of Pennsylvania, I’m officially studying political science, but have also made it my personal mission to study the Philly food scene. I love to cook, eat, talk about/write about food, and couldn’t be happier to be living in a city where so many people feel the same way. If its edible, I’ll try it–especially when topped with a fried egg or some truffles.”
Sometimes the only way to kick your day off right is with a big pile of ridiculously fluffy and deliciously deadly French Toast. Let’s face it, anything with this much sugar automatically makes those rough mornings a little sweeter. Check out these spots for the ultimate guilty pleasure that is basically an excuse to eat dessert for breakfast. Not that we’re protesting.
Whats stuffed with cream cheese, topped with bananas and vanilla bean syrup and is the size of your head? The stuffed french toast at Sabrina’s. It will do exactly what its namesake implies–stuff you–and will also start your morning off in the sweetest direction.

The long awaited Midtown Village location of Green Eggs Cafe is set to softly open on Monday, April 9th. The Grand Opening is set for Monday, April 16th. Center City residents and workers will then have easy access to the popular brunch/breakfast/lunch spot’s Kitchen Sink ( three eggs scrambled with cheese, signature potatoes, peppers, and onions, topped biscuit and country sausage gravy), creme brulee French toast and breakfast burrito.
We’re predicting lines, long lines.

Got a note yesterday from Anthony Gualtieri, GM of the not-yet-open American small-plates restaurant (and whiskey bar) Stateside at 1536 East Passyunk Avenue. He let me know that owners William Bonforte and Stephen Slaughter (from Green Eggs Cafe) have gotten their liquor license approved and are just waiting for the final inspections to come in (due this week), which will put the place on track for an opening “no later than the middle of November.”
One thing that’s still coming together? Chef George Sabatino’s menu. But that’s going to be taken care of this weekend since the former Barbuzzo chef will be doing a 6-course pop-up tasting this weekend at the South Philly Green Eggs. It’s $55 per person, with two seatings scheduled for Saturday night. Check out the menu after the jump.

Benny Lai who owns Chinatown’s Vietnam and West Philadelphia’s Vietnam Cafe is opening a third restaurant. Grill Fish Cafe will serve up Asian seafood next door to his West Philadelphia restaurant.
Chestnut7 dials up upscale pub food for Chestnut Hill. The former Solaris Grille is serving up brick oven pizzas and sub-$20 entrees nightly. Lunch and brunch will be up in the next few weeks. [Zagat]
Green Eggs Cafe is opening its third location. This one on Philadelphia’s best restaurant row at 13th and Locust. The popular bruncherie will be taking over part of the former Signatures Gentleman’s Club. No timeline is set for an opening but we presume it will be after Stateside, the bar they have under construction on Passyunk Avenue. [The Insider]

Jim Burke of James is back working for Stephen Starr. He’ll be in the kitchen at the New York Historical Society Museum. Starr recently won the catering contract for the 77th Street and Central Park West museum. [Meal Ticket]

Brian Freedman has plenty of praise for Green Eggs Cafe as he finds attention to detail keeps the decadent from becoming overwrought.
This, essentially, is a no-lose spot for brunch. The space is bright and suffused with natural light, the service is attentive but never grating (so important during those first delicate hours of the morning), and even the coffee is brewed with care.

Stephen Starr’s Il Pittore which was going to go into the former Ansill space at 3rd and Bainbridge has done an about face and is heading to Locust Street and the old Deux Cheminees. [The Insider]
