Guy Fieri’s True Nature, Illuminated Through Parody

Posted by Jason Sheehan on February 20th, 2013

It’s been a big day. We’ve given away over $2,000 worth of free tickets to Philly Cooks in a crazy scavenger hunt (which isn’t quite over yet). We’ve talked about Han Chiang and PYT and Han Chiang collaborating with PYT and watched the weird new commercial for American Sardine Bar over and over again.

But what’s the best way to cap off a big day? With one, final hit of supreme and beautiful strangeness. Which is why I offer you this:

Guy Fieri never registered the domain name for his Guy’s American Kitchen and Bar. Some computer nerd in Brooklyn named Bryan Mykto (who is now my hero) noticed this and bought it. Mr. Mykto then went and knocked up a fake website for Fieri. Said website contains only a menu–but it is a small work of art, artfully skewering the bleach-haired hype-man for American gravy-based fat-assery and offering such brilliant dishes as…

Food Network Thinks We’re So Cool, Does Own Top 50 Pizzas List

Posted by Jason Sheehan on August 3rd, 2011

Obviously, the good people from the Food Network‘s online promotional juggernaut, foodnetwork.com, saw the results from our enormous pizza project, The Great Philadelphia Pizza Quest, and decided that it looked like so much fun, they’d do one of their own.

And sure, their version chooses just one pizza from each of the 50 states. But when it came time to choose a pie from Pennsylvania, who do you think they tapped as the best of the best?

That’s right: Jeff Michaud and Marc Vetri from Osteria. What’s more, they also singled out the one pizza that we chose for our Top 50 (and, more or less, as our city-wide perfect 10): the Parma, with its blistered crust, thin-sliced prosciutto, careful mix of mozzarella and fontina cheeses and impossibly peppery arugula.

So nice job, Food Network. It seems that we’ve finally found something we both can agree on.

Now if we could just come to some kind of understanding about this Guy Fieri nonsense
