Dan McQuade spotted this 500° bag in last week’s episode of the Office. 500° owner, Rob Wasserman had no idea his burger spot’s bag was going to show up on network television but then The Price Is Right didn’t tell him that a meal at Rouge, Wasserman’s Rittenhouse spot, was going to be a prize either.

Shake Shack is indeed coming to University City. Danny Meyer’s burger chain will be an anchor tenant of Drexel’s Chestnut Square complex, under construction on the 3200 block of Chestnut. It is the second Shake Shack for Philadelphia, succeeding the always crowded location at 20th and Sansom.
Burgers should be pumping out of the kitchen by the time Drexel rolls back to school in the fall of 2013.

Numa Sushi Bar had a sign posted that they were closing on Tuesday, January 15th. Oddly they were still operating on Wednesday but they did bail out on Restaurant Week. Michael Klein is speculating that the bi-level sushi bar that succeeded Moshi Moshi Sushi Bar might just be the location of Spike Mendelsohn’s Good Stuff Eatery.
In an interview with Eater, Mendelsohn said he had settled on a location ”on Walnut. Around that area. But it’s bad luck to give out the specific address.” Mendelsohn also said it would take a four-month build-out to open the burger joint.
If Good Stuff Eatery does indeed open on 18th Street, it will be the latest opening that makes that stretch one of the best lunch rows in Philadelphia with everything from ramen to vegan.

Ants Pants Cafe at 2212 South Street is adding dinner service, starting tonight. It’s a full menu of small plates, salads, sandwiches and larger plates. A departure for the Australian themed cafe that until now has been known for bacon stacks and Violet Crumble milkshakes. We’re intrigued to try the Aussie Burger with grilled pineapple, roasted beets and an over medium egg.

Thanksgiving Eve, much like Thanksgiving itself, is a time of celebration. It ranks amongst the holidays as one of the best bar nights of the year — family’s in town, friends are together, and everyone is done putting their finishing touches on the impending American feast. Diners of University City prepare yourself; its about to get meaty. The brother restaurant of Sabrina’s Cafe, Spencer ETA Burger, is changing its hours and is now open Sun-Mon 11 a.m. – 9 p.m., and Tues-Sat 11 a.m. – 10 p.m. Basically what this change means is that you can treat yourself to one of their various burgers every day of the week for brunch, lunch or dinner. If you’re not aware of what type of patties Spencer’s has to offer, well, we suggest you familiarize yourself. Choose from beef, turkey or veggie patties and enjoy their versions of extremely avante garde burgers. We’re talking over the top, like the Ultimate Spencer Burger, which features your choice of patty on brioche with mixed greens, grilled turkey bacon, poached apples, roasted red pepper, cheddar cheese and a caramelized red onion raspberry herb ketchup. Talk about a mouthful —not that we’re complaining.

In late August we alerted our fine readers that the Churchill Burger at Pub & Kitchen was in its final days. And last night was indeed the last night you could order the bone marrow-glazed meal on a bun.
Tonight a new menu debuts at Pub & Kitchen full of tempting fall dishes and just a single burger. The $18 sandwich is a Creekstone Farms custom dry-aged blend patty, topped with double-cut bacon, pickled red onions and Shropshire blue cheese, served on a Hudson Bakery challah roll.

Brian Freedman took a trip on over to Drexel‘s campus to check out Spencer ETA Burger, brought to campus by the team behind Sabrina’s (the brunch spot’s West Philly locale is in the same building). What he found there was “drunk-food par excellence” and patties with scene-stealing toppers that’ll make the biggest carnivore love Spencer’s veggie burgers.
The homemade toppings here take center stage, not just over the meatless burgers but over the beef as well. The meat is fine, mind you—plenty juicy and seasoned with a deft hand—but the toppings tend to be so generously applied, and occasionally so baroque in their constituent combination of components, they simply steal the proverbial show.
