The Shiprock Pop-Up: In Which Navajo Tacos Will Be Served On The East Coast For Probably The First Time Ever

Posted by Jason Sheehan on December 7th, 2012

I have four words to say to you people: Fry. Bread. Pop. Up.

I have confidence that a small portion of the Foobooz audience–those who come from the West, who have traveled through the mountains and the deserts, who know that the state of New Mexico has more to offer this great nation than discount turquoise and crystal meth–have just passed out from excitement over the promise of an honest-to-Jesus Navajo taco / fry bread experience in Philly, so I’m going to give them a moment to recover.

For those of you who are not moved by those four magic words above, let me explain something to you about Navajo tacos…

Foobooz Store Now Open For Your Shopping Pleasure

Posted by Jason Sheehan on November 23rd, 2012

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, it’s true. Foobooz–America’s most awesome-est food blog–now has a retail arm for all of your holiday shopping pleasure. The Foobooz Store will be THE place to pick up clever t-shirts (like the Hawk Krall-designed East Passyunk tee, or the limited-edition Foobooz Sriracha shirt which will make you the coolest kid on any block whenever you wear it), Philadelphia City Dining Cards, Side Project Jerky (the jerky for gentlemen), and more.

And really? We’re just getting started. But what with Black Friday, Cyber Monday and all the gift-giving holidays coming up (did you know that beef jerky and locally-made food blog tee-shirts are the traditional gifts for loved ones on New Year’s Day?), we decided it was time to light this candle and start whoring ourselves expanding our brand more directly.

So check it out, won’t you? It’s up and running right now. Just stay home, have a cup of coffee, skip all the crazy sales and just shop with us. Because really, everyone knows that, come Christmas, an Anonymous Commenter tee-shirt and a fistful of jerky beats some stupid flatscreen TV any day.

Philadelphia Ties in the Latest Lucky Peach

Posted by Foobooz on July 6th, 2012

Issue 4 of Lucky Peach is now on newsstands and there are a couple of local connections within David Chang’s quarterly journal of food and writing. Tom Lax profiles the Schmitter for a foodie audience. The Schmitter of course is a combination of cheese, steak, grilled salami, tomatoes, fried onions and special sauce served on a kaiser roll. It’s the sandwich of record at McNally’s in Chestnut Hill, and can also be found at Citizens Bank Park and Lincoln Financial Field. Hawk Krall who seems to be everywhere right now also has an illustration featured in the magazine. Look for the American Food Issue of Lucky Peach at Barnes and Noble or do what we did and pick up a copy at Cook.

Hawk Krall Show on First Friday

Posted by Aubrey Nagle on July 5th, 2012

This July 6th, as part of First Friday gallery events, Hawk Krall will be showing his work at Space 1026 from 6 to 10 p.m. Hawk Krall is a local artist who specializes in drawing crazy hot dogs and the streets of Philly in his signature style, as well as writing about hot dogs for Serious Eats. Krall is the also artist behind the illustrations of Hot Diggity’s menu, the Po-Boy t-shirts for Khyber Pass Pub, and our Foobooz East Passyunk Totes.

Though there will be no hot dog illustrations at the gallery opening there is sure to be a great deal of Krall’s take on Philadelphia in mostly black and white with a few full color paintings on wood. More importantly, of course, there will be beer and tomato pie. Yes, I repeat: beer and tomato pie. Awesome artwork from a fellow foodie, with food….do you need any more reasons to go?
