First there was stuffy Jake’s, where I once dropped more than $100 on a mediocre brunch for two. Then owner Bruce Cooper opened adjacent (and more casual) wine-and-pizza spot Cooper’s, in 2008. Just recently he repainted, redesigned, and combined the two into one restaurant with one menu and one chill vibe, which is the best thing he could possibly have done. You’ll enjoy the high-value wine list, the polenta gnocchi, and the brick-oven-roasted branzino at what is now one of Manayunk’s best bets.

Free lot parking in Manayunk may just be reason enough to venture out to the newly reconstituted Jake’s and Cooper’s Wine Bar, though diners who’ve patronized Bruce Cooper’s award-winning Main Street spot for the past 25 years will probably want to check out the latest reconceptualization that has the Jake’s side of the operation finally eliminating most traces of its fine-dining history in order to meet 21st century Philadelphia where it’s at today.

Congratulations to Jake’s and Cooper’s Wine Bar in Manayunk! The restaurant is celebrating their 25th anniversary this month, and to honor the occasion chef Bruce Cooper will be presenting a special menu from October 21 to October 26. For just $25, guests receive a three course menu including an appetizer, a choice of entrée, and dessert. Be sure to bring the restaurant something silver (or just your patronage) for their milestone anniversary!
