Tonight: A Very Fishtown Beef & Beer

The Lutheran Settlement House is hosting a beef and beer fundraiser this evening for its Senior Center Exercise Program. The food, drinks and music runs from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at 1340 Frankford Avenue and costs 30 at the door. Food will include burnt ends from Fette Sau and roast beef and vegan options from Johnny Brenda’s. Beer is provided by Yards Brewing.

Water Main Break Shuts Down Johnny Brenda’s Temporarily

The photo above is from an 8-inch water main break in Fishtown that has forced Johnny Brenda’s to close its doors for Monday, Tuesday, and possibly Wednesday. The break was reported at 1 a.m. on Sunday and flooded the basement of Johnny Brenda’s, forcing an evacuation of the building. Shows this week are being rescheduled around town.

This weekend Johnny Brenda’s is hosting three days of bock beers and homemade sausages. It all gets underway at 4 p.m. on Friday and runs through the weekend.

Six tap-handles will be dedicated to local bock beers, a staple of spring. The kitchen will be serving up housemade brats and soft pretzels to pair with those Maibocks, Doppelbocks and Weizenbocks.

The Trouble with Trippels Is Saturday at Johnny Brenda’s

We freaking love this poster. Almost as much as we love Belgian Trippel style beers. On Saturday, January 19th, Johnny Brenda’s is hosting The Trouble with Trippels IV. Starting at 11 a.m. and going all day and night the Fishtown bar will be pouring local versions of trippels.

Anthony Bourdain’s new(ish) show, “The Layover” follows the famed foodie as he travels through the US, Asia and Europe where he only has 24-48 hours to reveal the story of a place’s culture, food and people. Well, it looks like his next layover has landed him in Philly, and the episode is premiering the night of Monday, December 3rd. Johnny Brenda’s Is Hosting Brooklyn’s Sixpoint Brewery

Fishtown’s Johnny Brenda’s goes beyond their normal local-beer radius for Sixpoint Brewery’s second annual tap-takeover this Friday, October 19th at 4 p.m. Sixpoint will present a “Brewer’s Dozen” of beers which will showcase the brewery’s core beers, as well as some special brews which are rarely seen outside the five boroughs. At 6 p.m. Sixpoint Head Brewer Pete Dickson will tap a custom firkin.

Local Sixpoint rep “Jersey” Dan Bisogno & The Choice Tasters Selectors will be spinning records from across the musical spectrum.

4th Annual End of Summer Pils Picnic at Johnny Brenda’s

Johnny Brenda’s will be saying “so long” to summer this Saturday September 8^th with their 4^th Annual Pils Picnic. From “noon to night” Johnny Brendas will be serving a full tap list of pilsners including some local favorites. Picnic fare will be available and a DJ will be spinning from 1 to 5 p.m.

Saison Brunch at Johnny Brenda’s

Johnny Brenda‘s annual Saison Brunch will be on Saturday, July 14th from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saison and Farmhouse Ale style beers will be on tap until they kick and a traditional brunch will be served. And since it is also Bastille Day, French style brunch items like country pate, vegetable terrine, and quiche will be available, too. From noon to 4 p.m. French pop music will be playing to complete the atmosphere.

Dogfish Head Barroom Blitz at Johnny Brenda’s

This Friday, Johnny Brenda’s is hosting a Dogfish Head Barroom Blitz. Starting at 4 p.m. the Fishtown bar will be pouring eight of Dogfish Head’s rarer beers including a firkin of Johnny Cask, a blend of 60 and 90 Minute IPAs refermented in cask with maple syrup.
