Kris Restaurant has closed, hand is now becoming part of the Munish Narula empire. The restaurant’s Facebook page says that all gift certificates will be honored at owner Kristian Leuzzi’s, Stogie Joe’s on East Passyunk.
Also in South Philadelphia, paper is up in the windows at Queen Village’s Village Belle and no online reservations are available before Friday, April 5th.
Lou Campanaro, chef/owner of the Village Belle tells us it’s some spring cleaning that will include a new look for the bar and prep work for the outdoor cafe.
Campanaro also tells us the menu is being reformatted to focus on small plates with small prices. The wine and cocktail lists are also being revamped and four new taps are being added.
Village Belle is aiming to reopen this Thursday or Friday and will have Allagash White, Victory Swing Sesion Saison, Goose Island IPA and Flying Fish Farmhouse Ale on tap.

Chef Kristian Leizzi has created a new menu for his Saturday and Sunday brunch at Kris from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The menu is full of Leizzi’s take on brunch classics like a pecan crusted brioche French toast and made to order frittatas as well as a modern version of classic Italian Giambotta (pictured above). The Giambotta stew is one of the many hearty vegetarian options along the brunch menu, which carnivores can add some meat into for a little extra.
Check out the full menu after the jump.

Kristian Leuzzi‘s Kris (which opened in November in the space that formerly housed his Kristian’s Ristorante) has been operating fairly quietly now for about 8 months in South Philly. But all of a sudden we’ve been getting some murmurs about the place here at Foobooz World HQ, and most of them have to do with the antipasti.
People have said that it’s a great bargain ($4 a plate, a full spread for $20). They’ve said that the restaurant itself is a great little neighborhood spot. But most importantly, in this salumi-obsessed age in which we live, a lot of folks are saying that the meats themselves are just plain amazing.
Kristian, along with his brothers Sonny and Joe, have been making their own cured meats for years, but have just recently started making them a focus of the menu at Kris. And you can check them all out (along with ripe cheeses, honey, Balsamic vinegar, grilled vegetables and crusty bread) at that $20 price-point through the end of August.

Stateside has named original Barbuzzo chef de cuisine George Sabatino as its executive chef. The Passyunk Avenue bar/restaurant won’t commit to an opening date more precise than Fall. See what Sabatino is preparing for the Stateside menu via his blog. We vote yes to duck sausage and braised beef cheeks. [George Sabatino]
If you’re Kristian Leuzzi, how do you signal the redo of your former restaurant at 11th and Federal will be more casual than its predecessor? Well you shorten Kristian’s to just Kris. The Stogey Joe’s owner is coming back to his original location later this year. [The Insider]
