Le Virtu Officially Christens Its Patio This Sunday

Posted by Foobooz on May 14th, 2013

le-virtu-outdoor-dining

Le Virtu’s recently redesigned outdoor dining area is officially reopening (they’ve been serving outdoors for about a month now) this Sunday, May 19th with a festive event and new dishes from chef Joe Cicala. The outdoor area has been paved with stones and bordered with shrubery that should soon be blossoming. In the rear of the space is a wooden canopy with clingin vines and attractive lighting. The canopy will eventually offer a small counter for guests to sit around to enjoy drinks and host special chef’s table dinners.paved with ivory-hued stone and bordered with smaller landscaping stones and lush shrubbery which will soon blossom.

This Sunday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Le Virtu will be hosting a gathering on the patio. Cicala will be serving Le Virtu soup, the restaurant’s namesake spring soup of 49-ingredients. Grilled Arrosticini (lamb skewers), grilled sausage and vegetables plus wine from the new tap wine system. Tickets cost $45 per person and include food and beverges.

Inside, Cicala’s latest menu additions will be served.

Tonight: Wine on Tap (And Free Snacks) At Le Virtu

Posted by Jason Sheehan on March 25th, 2013

So who’s ready for some wine on tap?

Starting tonight, Le Virtu will be filling glasses from the two brand new taps installed behind the bar by owners Cathy Lee and Francis Cratil-Cretarola. This new system is allowed by a change in the local liquor laws that allow for kegged wines from outside of Pennsylvania, and the two wines filling the lines right now definitely come from out of the area code.

On one side, there’ll be a red nebbiolo-dolcetto-barbera blend from Piemonte. On the other, a white verdicchio-pinot grigio-malvasia blend from Le Marche. The bar will be pulling glasses of both of these for just $6, starting tonight and going through Friday. And in addition to the grape juice, chef Joe Cicala and his crew will also be giving away a variety of complimentary stuzzichini–which is Italian for free snacks and makes them sound way classier.

So as if you needed another reason to head down to East Passyunk, now you have one. We’ll see you at the bar.

The $35 Challenge: Eating For Two At Le Virtu

Posted by Jason Sheehan on February 1st, 2013

levirtu-pasta

$35 for three courses sounds like a helluva deal. And that’s what Restaurant Week is built around. But say you want to go somewhere awesome without having to deal with the crowds, the restrictions and the stressed-out wait staffs that are also a part of Restaurant Week. Is that possible?

Yes. And at Le Virtu, with a little bit of math, you can also get a killer Abruzze dinner for two for just $70. And it’s a rather romantic meal, too. Here’s how to do it:

Wings at Alla Spina

The praise, it keeps on coming for Philadelphia. Zagat saluted two Philadelphia restaurants as the hottest Italian restaurants in the country. Amis and Le Virtu received the praise.

Also in the Marc Vetri orbit, Alla Spina’s chicken wings were named among the best chicken wings in the U.S. by Food & Wine.

Michael Solomonov’s Federal Donuts also got some national love as the donut and fried chicken spot was featured on NBC’s 1st Look.

Epic Meals: The 40-Course La Panarda Dinner At Le Virtù

Posted by Alex Tewfik on January 2nd, 2013

“You don’t want a beer,” said the bartender.

One by one, they’d filed in–couples, friends, regulars, all piling up on top of each other, dampening other guests’ clothing with their own (repercussion of the spitting afternoon rain). Some ordered drinks, most didn’t—and for good reason as I’d find out later. The coat racks filled, and the muraled bar went from hush to roar as the anticipation became audible. There was an electricity in the room; an excitement that effortlessly translated from the already educated to the soon-would-be.
