Lil Dan’s Gourmet

So What Is a Southwest Philly Floater

Posted by Foobooz on March 26th, 2013

swphilly-floater

Until Sunday  evening the best definition of a Southwest Philly Floater might have been comedian Chip Chantry’s. But when La Salle’s Tyrone Garland teardropped in his game-winning shot against Ole Miss and propelled his school into the Sweet Sixteen, a name was coined. And at least a couple of locals have already named sandwiches after the winning basket.

At Lil Dan’s food truck, the Southwest Philly Floater is a sour cream and onion chicken wrap. Down on West Passyunk Avenue, La Salle alum and owner of the recently opened Cousin’s Grubhouse, Jim Lord has given a breakfast sandwich of scrapple, pork roll and egg the Southwest Philly Floater monicker.

We’re still waiting for Southwest Philly Floater, the cocktail.

UPDATE: We’ve got cocktails.

Holiday Food Truck Round Up

Posted by Amanda Shulman on November 29th, 2012

Now that Thanksgiving has come and gone and December is peeking around the corner, it is acceptable to start getting into the holiday spirit. Crank up the Michael Buble Christmas album, break out the strands of lights and pull out your favorite latke recipes. Along with these classic preparations, also head to the Piazza at Schmidts for the Holiday Food Truck Round Up.

This Saturday, December 1st, food trucks are gathering at the Piazza to kick of the holiday season, but not just the upcoming holidays. Rather, they are celebrating all the holidays, from Independence Day to Cinco de Mayo. Each truck will have their own holiday theme with dishes to match. The day will also mark the beginning of Philly Mobile Food Association’s month long partnership with Philabundance. The trucks will be collecting canned goods, so come ready to give and ready to eat.

It will be the perfect end to a day of shopping at the Northern Liberties Shopping Spree.

Philadelphia Is Witnessing an Oreo Invasion

Posted by Alex Tewfik on October 17th, 2012

I’m sure you’ve all seen (or eaten your way through) the recent explosion of Oreo’s different flavors and varietals. Shapes went from the Double-Stuffed, to the Triple-Double, to the Neopolitan Triple Double. Flavors went from the regular cream filling, to a candy corn filling. Watching Oreo create these new and inventive flavor-shape combinations is disgustingly awesome, and often becomes a tantalizing metaphor for American culture—but we freakin’ love it.

So to honor our hilariously glutinous ways, here’s a roundup of three local hot-spots that are partaking in the Oreo Renaissance of late:
