Little Baby’s Ice Cream opened their “Cedar Park Embassy” this weekend at 4903 Catharine Street. The grand opening featured Philadelphia’s Firebird Wind Ensemble, Play on Philly Youth Orchestra, Philly Roller Girls and much more.

The new location brings Little Baby’s small batch ice cream to the Cedar Park neighborhood of West Philadelphia, convenient to Dock Street Brewery, Mariposa Food Co-op and other Baltimore Avenue businesses.

More Than Just Hype at Pizza Brain and Little Baby’s Ice Cream

Posted by Foobooz on April 1st, 2013

Trey Popp gives us two reviews in one as he visits the “weirdos” behind Pizza Brain and Little Baby’s Ice Cream.

I’ve got a severe hype allergy. But Brian Dwyer and Joseph Hunter’s partly Kickstarter-funded brainchild—which shares space, and a cockeyed ethos, with Little Baby’s Ice Cream—had me on an EpiPen high by the time I was chasing a rosemary-scented mushroom/fontina/goat cheese pizza with dense scoops of chipotle chocolate and Earl Grey sriracha ice cream.

How did it happen? Well for one thing, nothing neutralizes a rambunctious preschooler like knickknack-crammed plexiglass display boxes. For another, this is inventive and frequently terrific pizza.

UPDATE: Little Baby’s Cedar Park Embassy Is A Go

Posted by Jason Sheehan on March 6th, 2013

Remember a couple weeks ago when we told you about “Open Love Letter and Letter of Intent to the Citizens of the Cedar Park Neighborhood & Surrounding West Philadelphia, Pennsylvania” that was posted by the Little Baby’s team regarding their plans to expand into West Philly? Well apparently it worked. Grub Street is reporting that the good people of the Cedar Park neighborhood have sent a letter of support to the city saying, essentially, that they want ice cream and they want it now.

Because, you know, eventually this crappy weather is going to clear up. And when it does, ice cream season will be here again.

Little Baby’s Ice Cream Is Expanding–In Their Own Special Way

Posted by Jason Sheehan on February 14th, 2013

LittleBabysLogo

The crew behind Little Baby’s Ice Cream is weird. I mean seriously weird. (Need an example? Check out their first couple commercials.) So really, there was no chance that, when the time came for an expansion, they would do it in any kind of normal way.

Instead, this morning they released “An Open Love Letter and Letter of Intent to the Citizens of the Cedar Park Neighborhood & Surrounding West Philadelphia, Pennsylvania” in which they announced that they were planning to open a “Little Baby’s Ice Cream Cedar Park Embassy” (sister location to their Little Baby’s Ice Cream World Headquarters on Frankford Avenue) which would “serve as a destination for dessert seekers young and old to find our unique Hand-Made, Small-Batch, Super-Premium Philadelphia Style Ice Cream and Non-Dairy & Vegan Frozen Desserts, as well as our Hand-Made Cookies, Milkshakes, and everything else that our Future Selves dream up.”

The actual facts of the thing are this: The address under consideration is 4903 Catharine Street. The team is looking at an early spring 2013 opening. But before they can do that, they need the okay from the “various administrative offices of the City of Philadelphia.” And before they can get that, they need a little love from the neighborhood association, so are asking for support from those willing to come to the meeting on February 21, 7:15pm, at the Calvary Community Center at 38th and Baltimore.

Saint Peter’s Harvest Festival Raises Grade School Festival Bar

Posted by Alex Tewfik on October 19th, 2012

It isn’t often that a grade school’s fall festival is worthy of a post on Foobooz but tomorrow’s Harvest Festival at St. Peter’s School at 3rd and Lombard is no ordinary school event.

Of course there will be games, face-painting, pony rides, and baked goods from the students mothers but there will also be some serious eats. Names like Percy Street BBQ, Cantina Dos Segundos, Federal Donuts, Khyber Pass Pub, Little Baby’s Ice Cream, JAVA coffee, and even Whole Foods will take this small, unassuming street fair to the next level.

Food will be served 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Chili Competition at Greensgrow’s 5th Annual Fall Festival

Posted by Aubrey Nagle on October 3rd, 2012

Greensgrow Farms will be holding their 5th Annual Subaru Fall Festival on October 6th from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the day’s festivities include their yearly Chili Competition. Rain or shine contestants’ best secret chili recipes will go head-to-head during the tasting from 1-3 p.m. Entries can be beef, chicken, vegan, vegetarian, bean, no-bean – pretty much any way you want ‘em – and must be submitted (fully cooked) by 11 a.m. on the day of the festival. To enter you must register here by October 2.

This year the judges will be the festival public. Event attendees can pay $5 for a Subaru Fall Festival tasting mug and the chance to taste the competitors’ recipes. Ballots will be cast and the winner will be revealed at 3:45 p.m. The grand prize is a $200 Greensgrow gift card and the second prize will be The Rodale Whole Foods Cookbook and a year’s subscription to Organic Gardening Magazine. The third prize winner will receive a $50 gift card to a local restaurant.

Greensgrow’s Fall Festival will otherwise be filled with craft and harvesting demonstrations, cider pressing, face painting, craft vendors, and opportunities to visit the farm’s animals. Food vendors like Little Baby’s and Local 215 will be on hand and George Sabatino of Stateside will do a tasting and demonstration from 11:30 to 1:30 p.m.

Boing Boing Loves Little Baby’s (Kinda)

Posted by Jason Sheehan on August 6th, 2012

It looks like the freaks fellows behind Little Baby’s Ice Cream have a new fan. Over at Boing Boing, Cory Doctrow has fallen for the company’s various weird-ass videos, calling them “excellent nightmare-fuel advertisements” and giving them a very nice national platform.

Frankly, we couldn’t agree more. People made of ice cream eating their own heads? Fractal progressions of ice cream people all being licked by bigger and bigger ice cream people to the accompaniment of some kind of bizarre tone-poem that sounds like it was written (and maybe narrated) by a young and junkie-tastic William S. Burroughs? It’s all very, very strange. And we hear that if you turn the sound down and hit play just as Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon kicks in, they will BLOW YOUR TINY LITTLE MIND.

This way to the videos
